Fiber supplements?

Recommended Posts

Does anybody take Fiber supplements? I used to take Trader Joe's psillium husk on occasion but figure if I try to do that now I would erupt like a volcano! Was thinking of the fiber chewables, do they not expand like traditional fiber supplements? Just curious. Thanks.

A lot of people take different things. Those fiber with Vitamins are popular. psillium husks are fine as long as you drink plenty of Water.

Most people banded seem to battle Constipation, so something needs to be done to get the extra fiber.

I put Benefiber powder in at least two of my waters daily. I was told absolutely not to take Metamucil in any form or any similar products as they swell up and that is not good after being banded. I also take a stool softener daily and both are helping me be able to go about every two days without pain.

I also use benefiber. I put a coffee scoop (1/8 c.) in every shake i make and sometimes in other drinks or soft foods - 1-3 scoops a day.

I take 2 Fiberchoice - Weight Management chewable wafers everyday and they seem to help keep me regulated.

I tried those FiberChoice chewables but they made me blow up like a balloon. Very uncomfortable when sitting in meetings and my intestines are rumbling around!

I hear that Benefiber powder doesn't do that. I'm going to try it.

Thank you all for your suggestions! I was at Wal-Mart yesterday looking to buy some benifiber powder and ended up buying some liquid fiber "Ready Fiber" by health direct. Started taking it today so I have no idea how well it works. Plus, today was my first day on "real" food so I'm sure I'll find out soon!!:(

Doesn't anyone have any trouble with the benefiber giving them gas? I have enough trouble with gas already and it's worse if I drink more than one teaspoon of that in my Water.< /p>

After a bit of experimenting, I found that Fiber Choice chewables work well for me. I haven't noticed any gas or bloating and I seem to be able to go at least every other day without problems.:(

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
