5cc, 6 months post-op, NOT LOSING!!! What's with this?

Recommended Posts

Well, I was banded July 28, 2008. No complications. Lost 8 pounds on pre-op and 12 on post-op. I waited patiently for something to kick in after the first, second, third and fourth fills. All the while restriction is getting more significant. But now at 5 cc, I can't even eat a cracker without getting stuck. I am back on half servings of shakes. No weight loss. What is this? Doc says to eat 6 times a day, small of course. Not drinking calories, not eating bad stuff. Has anyone experienced this kind of weight loss resistence. I've been very patient. Now I'm feeling cursed. Thanks for the listening ear.

I know you probably don't want to hear this, but if you are getting stuck with food, then you need a slight unfill. Does your doctor know you are getting stucK?

How is your exercise going? Are you getting enough activity done during the day to help burn some calories?

One thing your body must have to function properly (and lose weight) is Protein. Are you getting enough Protein? It sounds like you may not be, if you are getting stuck often...I think what happens is your body stops getting what it expects and goes in starvation mode where your body holds on to every ounce because of the drastic change in what you are eating.

If you could add more protein to your diet it may jump start your weight loss again. I did this and it has helped me...I get the high protein slim fast drinks with 20 grams in one drink and eat the hight Protein Bars...I cut them up into very small pieces and pretty much let them dissolve in my mouth before swallowing.

Also, how long has it been since your last fill and you have been getting stuck...I find that when I have a fill, it takes a couple of weeks for me to eat somewhat normal again. I am currently at 7cc and I too get stuck very easily. I just try to make sure that everything I eat has some value... usually focusing on protein.

Hope this helps.

If you are cursed then I am too  I am 7 months post op, I lost 22 lbs pre op and then only 8 pounds for 6 months post op! Now this past month (Jan) I have finally started to lose. I know the feeling of waiting for something to happen, I have 5.5 cc in a 10 cc band right now and it is so hard when I see other people losing fast than me.

However, I do not get stuck (unless I try to eat bread of any sort) I am wondering if you need a slight un-fill? I am not a Doctor obviously so it is just my thought.

Good luck to you, please know you are not alone and I wish you well,

Barbie

Remember to get enough calories. If you dont your body will store what you are getting into fat. Sounds like your too tight. You should be able to eat chicken, fish, eggs etc...to get your Proteins. Good luck and see your surgeon sooner rather than later.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
