Suitable Snack

Recommended Posts

Howdy folks, (was banded 2 weeks ago) I'm looking for a recommendation for a hi Protein, low carb, low cal crunchy snack. Doesn't have to be salty.

Just something for late in the evening when a pizza sounds very temping.

Thanks, Dale

try the kashi go lean crunch Cereal without the milk. It is a little on the high calorie side but has a lot of Protein and Fiber in it.

I always save something for night. I eat either 100 calorie low fat bag of popcorn ( may be way to early for you to try that since you are still healing) or a 80 calorie yogurt or a 60 calorie string cheese. I drink a glass of ice cold Water before and take a long time eating it. It keeps me away from all the bad things. Not really any Protein in the popcorn but the yogurt and string cheese have some. Good luck on your new journey!

I was on a liquid diet for 4 weeks after surgery, so at 2 weeks out, all I was allowed for a snack in the evenings was sugar free Jello.

Now, I like to have a few kellogs all bran fiber garlic herb crackers with a string cheese. A lot of people eat a sugar free fudgesicle for Snacks.

Crunchy at two weeks out? You're not on mushies or purees? I'd ask your doctor first.

My doctor suggested nuts to me for a snack. Almonds. I also like those Wasabi peas. Not sure of the Protein content, but the punch the flavor has helps. I found some Austalian soda crackers that I love. They have a cracked pepper flavor that's good. There's only 40 calories in 8 of them. that with a bit of cheese or some Peanut Butter is good.

I was allowed nuts in week 3 and they saved me!

I have found very thin crunchy crackers I enjoy with these little single serving packs of hummus.

Also ate a lot of 'mini pops', these adorable little popsicles that are like 10 calories each.

At your stage in the game I wasn't allowed crunchy Snacks but now I like BBQ pork rinds: 80 cals 0 trans fat 0 carbs and 9 grams of Protein per serving

Wasabi peas are a good source of Protein (and fibre) I have a bag here that says 13 grams per serve. I love them, they satisfy that nut craving - although I eat nuts, I try to eat them sparingly and not go near them when I crave them - mega calories and fat.

Where do you find them? what isle in the store do they keep them on?

I have seen them in the produce section. They are spicy if you like spicy, but unfortunately, I don't.

Well, I dont live in America, lol but here, they're with the nuts in the supermarket and I buy them from either the meat wholesaler or the fruit and veg wholesaler we shop at.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
