Gas released as fat is used

Recommended Posts

So I've been reading about what happens to fat when it is used. Amazingly I never really knew where the fat went when I lost weight.

My understanding is that the fat cell remains. When certain hormones are release the fat cell empties its contents of fatty acids into the blood stream to be used as energy. One of the byproducts of this is GAS.

If this is correct, that explains why I feel like my doctor installed one of these.

I never realized that this is a byproduct. That explains why I was so gassy in early banding and not so much now, lol.

Thanks for posting this. I am so sick of this gas. I never had gas like this before the band, so I could not figure out why I have it so bad now. Your post makes sense!

Thanks again,

Oh Yea! Bring on the gas. Hehehehe. I want to get rid of the fat.....

I never understood why since my surgery 4 months ago I have had soooo much gas. How embarassing! Because I never had gas like this prior in my life. It's good to know that it is related to laband. But now how do we remedy this?

I'm so happy but wary to hear this, as I've been burping so much and so loudly (never did before) and am wondering how I'll handle this when I go back to work on Tuesday! I'll have to keep my door closed all day, but it mostly comes when I'm walking around!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
