Recommended Posts

Hi All!!

I had my band installed May 5, 2006.. and I love it!

I started at 250 and had gotten down to 165... then my family doctor put me on Lyrica for fibro.... and I went back p to 201!!!! I stopped taking Lyrica - but the weight is hardly moving!!! I have been off lyrica for over 6 months... so I am getting fustrated!

I am now down to 196... and I do have a fill scheduled for Feb. 13th.

I also started posting my food diary on myplate.com

Any help and support is appreciated !!!!

~Starr~

Hey Starr,

Sorry to hear about all of your struggles, that must have been really frustrating to get down to 165 and then b/c of a medication, re-gain some of the weight. First I'll tell you, you're not alone. I was banded in April 06, and where I am very proud of the weight I've lost, I know I have a long ways to go. I've basically lost and regained the same 5lbs for the last year or so, which is really frustrating. I feel like I should be further along by now, but am still very thankful for my band. I'm pretty sure if I didn't have it, I would have regained the 75+ lbs I've lost and probably more! So over the last month, I've been working really hard to always write down everything I consume as well as write down what I'm burning when I go to the gym. I actually bought a Polar heart rate monitor, that allows you to set goals and tracks your progress. I've successfully lost 9lbs over the last month, which is a really good rate. Its SOOO hard, but I've found that the most important part, is going to the gym regularly!. Stick with it, we'll get through this!! :( Keep me posted on how you're doing.

Hello,

I was banded in Jan of 2006. I am just coming back on this thread and am desparatly needing a fresh start. I have not followed band rules for a very long time. I lost 50lbs but now 14 have come back on. I need to get some help and maybe even find a support group in the area we are living in now if there is one. I still have lots of lbs to lose. In fact about another 50 or so. I am not worried about that right now. I want to focus on getting back to good habits. I have very little fill because I have a fairly bad reflux and heartburn issue. Can anyone help me get the basic band rules? I moved to Arizona for a number ofmonths so I am not close to my doc to get some help. I think LBT is about my only hope for right now. Thank you to any and all of you for any help you can offer me.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
