Aetna six month diet-nervous about doctor's documentation

Recommended Posts

Hi. I complete my six month diet under a doctor and lost some weight in the beginning but couldn't keep it off. I just picked up my records from the doctor's office and I see that she used words like "admits noncompliance" . Will Aetna deny me based on something like that? Has anyone had things like that written in their records and still been approved?

I didnt lose any weight when on my 6 month diet because if I had the insurance company would not of approved me but I didnt see my records that the doc sent over to the insurance company either. I think you will be ok. Good luck!

I am just beginning this process, but I have read a ton of posts on here and never heard of anyone being denied because of noncompliance on the diet or not losing on the diet. I think its more important that you weighed in w/your doctor every month and that your doctor made thorough notes. The only problems I've heard w/the 6 month diet is if the doctor is too brief w/their notes or if too much weight is lost so that the BMI goes below what is required.

Anyway, so try not too worry too much. I know it is hard, though. I am nervous about doing everything right as well. If you think about it, though, who is ever COMPLETELY compliant on a diet. On WW, how many people say they have trouble getting all their Water in or go over their points sometimes. And, then you talk about it in the meeting and try to figure out how to do better. Personally, I feel like its just part of the diet process.

I got a problem with my doc making to brief notes. I have one more month to go on my 3 month diet.

My last appointment is in Feb. I gonna have a sit down and thoroughly go through my diet activatIes and get them well documented.

Thanks! Do we know how brief is too brief? She didn't write paragraphs or anything - just a couple sentences about what we talked about.

I started my supervised 6-month weight loss diet in January 2008. I weighed in at 253. I yo-yo back and fourth. I never went past 253, but I think I only lost a four or five pounds during that 6-month period. Some might consider results as non-compliance, while others would say, I would be a great candidate for WLS.

I don't have the same insurance as you, but my insurance allowed me to see either the nutritionist or my PC at least once a month with weigh ins for 6-months.

I mainly saw my nutritionist, because it was a free service via my insurance plan. Plus, she was available on weekends, which meant I did not need to take time off of work. There was one time I saw the PC rather than the nutritionist and my insurance company excepted his report.

I never received a copy of the PC's report, but my nutritionist always provided me a copy of her report before I left from the appointment. She completed the report and wrote notes while we were engaged in conversation. She documented my weight, exercise, and our discussions pertaining to nutrition and WLS.

Her report was on a template form, which was only one page and was never more than two paragraphs of information. She and my doctore recommended me for the surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
