Well, tomorrow is my big day and just a couple of hours ago I got a sore throat and stuffy nose. I will tell my Dr. in the morning about it but I just wanted to see if anyone else had their surgery when they had a cold.

Is it possible they would cancel the surgery?

I also wonder if my symptoms could be from weather changes. I live a couple hours away from the town im doing the surgery in and its been in the 20's and 30's at my home and it was in the 70's when I got here.

I've HEARD they may cancel due to colds because it increases your chances of getting pneumonia after the anesthesia. (I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV) With the weather change though, sounds like that's your culprit, I hope. I'll pray that it's allergies!!!!

I have a cold and when I went to my pre op testing last week the nurse said they would still do my surgery if i had a cold but if it turns into an infection (bronchitis) then they won't do it. Kinda luckily i ended up with an ear infection so i am on antibiotics.

I'm in the same boat but mine is due to allergy's so I have been trying to get better all week. My surgery is Jan 30th. I am hoping I can still have surgery as well. I see My Doc 27th for last visit with him before surgery. I have waited so long and now this... I hope it works out for the both of us. Keep me posted as to what happens.

I would not want to be sneezing the day after surgery. Really deep breaths were painful, I wouldn't want to imagine sneezing

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
