Question about protein & allergic reaction

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I'm getting the band next week and have been trying Protein Shakes to get used to them. Has anyone ever been allergic to the powder? I had a funny skin reaction over the weekend and it lasted a few days. I narrowed it down to a few things but one of the things new was the powders? utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein Powder. I didn't have one yesterday or today and my skin is getting better but I'm afraid to try it again to see if it was the protein! LOL  Any suggestions?

I MAY be wrong (it happens way more than I'd like LOL) but I'm thinking if it gave you a rash (you just said "funny skin reaction" so I'm guessing rash) it was probably something topical like a new lotion, cosmetic, soap, etc. (not always, but often). However if it was more like flushing or hives, then that definitely could be something you ingested. Are you allergic to anything in the powder?

If it did give you hives/flushing etc, be careful....any more, allergies are nothing to play around with.

OMG, I thought I was crazt until I read this post. I was banded on the 14th and started on the Protein powder on the 15th. On the 16th, I noticed that my legs were itching like crazy and were breaking out.....I could not stop scratching. I can only contribute this to the Protein Powder because that is the only new thing I have been taking.

I normally have bad allergies, so my PCP put me on Xyzal for that. I have been taking it, but I am going to see about the dosage being upped or changed to something stronger before I scratch all the skin off of my legs because I can't stop the Protein.< /p>

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
