susietobig 0 Posted January 23, 2009 What is this pre-op diet talk? My surgery is Feb 25th Pre-op appt Feb 13th I never have heard of this pre-op diet thing:confused: What is it anyone>?????????
kiz 1 Posted January 23, 2009 Some, if not most, doctors require some sort of pre-op diet to shrink the liver prior to surgery. Not every doctor requires it though, so if you haven't heard about it, you might want to call and see if you need to do one. There are as many variations on the diet as there are band doctors, it seems.

susan1961 0 Posted January 23, 2009 My pre-op diet was 1 day of clear liquids... I have heard of others needing to do 2 or more weeks of liquids. I think it in part depends upon pre-op weight, and in part upon your doctor's preference. They'll tell you exactly what they want you to do.
TQUAD64 9 Posted January 23, 2009 You really need to confirm with your doctor if he/she wants you on a pre-op diet. Some doctors require it, while others do not. Good luck on your surgery.
glorybee123 0 Posted January 23, 2009 I had to do Atkins for 10 days pre-op, high Protein low carb in order to shrink the liver.
stylist43 0 Posted January 23, 2009 mine was just Clear Liquids the day before surgery and then nothing after midnight the day of surgery. most people that i have heard of have to do a somewhat longer time which i think would have been better for me so my body would have gotten used to having only the clear liquids after surgery. Don't feel badly about no preop diet...I was on one for over 5 weeks and you don't get used to being hungry! Post op is hard, regardless. But we bandsters make it through!
