Anyone watch The Learning Channel and the 900 pound woman?????

Recommended Posts

It was on Tuesday night. She fought very hard to get by-pass surgery. She found one Dr. who was willing to take her on. She had a 5 1/2 hour procedure. She survived the surgery and was on her way to recovery and she died of a heart attack. It was a real bummer. I wanted to see her lose the weight and maybe have a happy ending... it just wasn't to be.

Obviously her weight caused her death not the surgery, but still they usually cover a successful patient.

I watched that show too. the Doc works on Super Obese patients. He will touch patients that other Drs. would turn down because of their BMI being too high

Dr. Nowzaradan is who did my re-banding. He was very thorough for me, as my surgery took over four hours. He is a good doctor, but overbooked. It is a nightmare going to an appointment. Just be prepared to wait.

I saw Oprah the other day start with her story. It was classic Oprah WLS bashing with a little bit of successful people to make it look like she was being balanced and fair.

The show I saw was three shows about three people, only the lady (beautiful hispanic Mom) died. The shows were called "half ton Dad, half ton teen, amnd half ton Mom." Very sad but a new life I think for the two that survived and maybe a valuable although painful lesson to the two daughters of the Mom who died. She seemed like a heck of a lady with a lot of courage to find by internet campaign a doc who would do the procedure on her! They were all great shows, the teen broke my heart. He was such a baby, his Mom treated him like he was two and fed him to keep him her baby, I think. I think she had lost a child and found it impossible to say no to him and wanted to keep him as a baby. Cali

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
