I have recently been thinking about being banded. Looking for a good surgeon and facility. I also have tricare but am not sure if it should cover everything? Any info that you have is greatly appreciated! I live in Spokane but would travel if needed.

I had my surgery at Northwest Weightloss Surgery in Everret, WA. I paid with carecredit. they have online support groups and stuff...also the majority of the people working there have the band as well!

I saw that you did private pay. How much did it cost?

I paid around 16,000. Which includes a year of free fills and appointments. The evals and 2 year fix it guarantee. Which pretty much means if anything happens to the band (erosion, slippage) they will fix it free all I have to pay is the anesthisia (sp). I make payments each month, just like a credit card

So far I haven't had any problems. I haven't even needed to get an unfill...I'll probably need one eventually, but for now I'm doing okay! You can also go to nwwls.com they have the surgeons one there and everything. My surgeon was Dr. Chock...she was awesome!

How long did it take for you to actually get to band placed from when you started to research it. I would like to get it done ASAP!!! but it kind of sounds like it will take a while until they will actually do the procedure.

I went to a seminar. Within a few days I went in to have my consult. I then went in about a week later to have my psych eval and my surgeon consult, scheduled my surgery and within that next month I was having the band placed! I was only on the pre op diet for like 4-5 days! Because I was financed/approved through CareCredit I was able to get everything done fast! It would take longer going through insuarance though.

How far in advance your surgery is. My surgery was scheduled for like a week after my surgical consult...it was sooo fast!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
