Hi Susie,

Kevin from Madera, CA here. My advice: start saying good-bye to all your favorite foods one by one. This will smooth the blow to your system. I dropped the shakes and frappacinos little by little. bread was tough but it is the worst for the band from what I've heard. You'll be surprised that you will loose some weight even B4 the band. After surgery you will hurt a bit, take your pain meds, they help. Don't try to be a hero and go back to work after two days like me, not worth it. You will have to sip fluids and Protein Shakes, I had to switch to soy Protein cause the whey stuff made me nausious. Within a few days the drinking will get easier and the weight will start to come off slowly. Usually your doctor will move you to puree after 10 days to 2 wks. You will iss food a little but not as much as you enjoy loosing weight. You start to feel better even before you look better. Keep your chin up and get ready to do some smiling.

Hi, I am brand new too! Surgery is sometime between Feb 15-22. I can't wait to get this going! Looking for friends to go through this with. I am very lucky to have a supportive wife and family, just need those friends that know and or live the journey.

Hi Susie: I have seen threads about this Doctor posted on this web site under doctors and hospitals. You might want to use the search tool at the top of this web site to find information about him from other posters.

I will share with you that I enjoy all the foods I ate pre-band, now that I am banded. My issue pre-band was Portion Control. I am telling you, I had huge issues with this. I hate to admit this, but pre-band, during the holidays I could easliy consume a whole 1-pound box of Sees candy, post band this past holiday, I was satisfied with 1 piece of candy. That is a big mile stone for me.

I can eat bread, chicken and other items that give other Bandsters problems. I chew my food really well and I count calories, so I can stay on track. Plus, I work out at least 5x a week. I can actually exercise without feeling the knee and ankle pains. I feel stronger every day and I feel more in control of my life in so many ways.

Good luck with your journey!

Hello all!!

I will be banded in late Feb or Early March. GOing in for my final appointment next monday and will get a surgery date than.

I am nervous and excited like everyone else. I am so worried about the pain and discomfort. I want to be back to normal as soon as possible.

I have lost 14 pounds so far. I am guessing I will be at 20 before the surgery. I am am a strict 1200 calorie diet now and lots and lots of Water. Gotta get the exercise going next. I want to be in a routine before I have the surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
