Britalian 0 Posted January 21, 2009 Hi all, I was banded on 1/12, and for the past couple of days I have been having a weird taste in my mouth. Is that a sign that I am dehydrated? Also, I am craving Tomato sauce...there must be some kind of Vitamin in there that I am lacking! At lunch today I was a bit worried, because I drank a whole cup of cream Soup, and was hungry two hours later. (Yesterday I could barely finish half a cup.) So, I ate two tablespoons of sugar free Jello and I feel like it is stuck or something. Am I supposed to chew up the jello until it is liquified? My post care instructions don't address chewing until I get on solid foods so I didn't think I had to watch out for jello.
twoheadedgirl 0 Posted January 21, 2009 Are you on any painkillers? The liquid vicodin left a funny taste in my mouth, it also dried my mouth out like crazy. I was banded on the 14th, and I am still not allowed to have anything besides Water, tea and Protein shakes. So, I'm not too sure about the Jell-o
DENTALSPIT 0 Posted January 22, 2009 Protein makes you have bad breathe. I have had it since i was banded on 11-24-08. Also if you are having acid reflux that could be giving you a taste too.
Kat817 19 Posted January 22, 2009 It could be a fat burning phase you are in known as ketosis. It gives you a bad taste in your mouth, and total dragon breath!!! It is your body switching over to burning stored reserves of fat, I believe. I remember ketosis, just not remembering exactly WHAT it is!!! Been awhile! If you are having cream Soups, then I would think the Jello would be fine, as would a taste of Tomato sauce. I know it used to be if you left Jello on the counter it thawed....not so anymore, you can actually buy it jelled on the shelf in our stores! So, perhaps the Gelatin in it is more solid than you planned on it being, chew it a bit, and as soft as it is, it will break down, if it is still uncomfortable, try drinking something warm. It could have possibly just filled you up too much as well, which made your food come up high enough in your pouch/esophagus to be uncomfortable. The acid reflux is on the money too..... If you are really curious you can go to Walmart or to most any pharmacy and get ketosis strips. Little paper strips you hold in your urine stream, and it changes color to let you know if you have reached the point of ketosis. There are some REALLY smart people on the boards, someone will chime in and let you know exactly what ketosis is I betcha!! Good luck, and welcome to bandland!! Britalian 0 Posted January 22, 2009 Thanks for replying. I have only taken Loratab sporadically, haven't had any acid reflux, and am definitely not getting enough Protein, so I think the taste in my mouth is probably ketosis. Kat, thanks for your advice about the Gelatin. I ran out of the office last night without putting it in the fridge, it is still sitting here, solid. I'm throwing this one away but the next one I eat I'll be sure to chew, chew, chew! I did have some Tomato sauce, and I perked up like Popeye after eating spinach! mom23gr8boys 0 Posted January 25, 2009 Ketosis is when your body isn't getting lots of carbohydrates and calories and starts to use the fat as fuel for energy. It normally takes about 14 days for the body to enter Ketosis, but it can happen sooner. It generally leaves a metallic type taste in your mouth.
