does your fill doctor do this??

Recommended Posts

Hi all I had my first fill yesterday and all went very well. I do although have a question. Do your doctors use flouroscope to find your port? or do they just feel for it and then fill you? My doctor has been giving fills for five years now and over 500 patients. Just curious to see what everyone says .. thanks

My surgeon's clinic offers both. If they cannot feel your port they'll do the flouroscope. I've only had them do a fill after pushing on my tummy to find my port.

Mine pushes and finds the port. They have filled it with no problems both times.

My doctor's office offers it both ways. The first two fills I had they did by feeling for it. I returned for my third fill complaining that I had no restriction. He took me to the hospital to do it under flouroscopy. I turns out they missed with the first two fills. I must perfer the flouroscopy because then atleast you know they got it in properly.

My doctor always uses fluro for fills. I will admit that they only used it to find my port once, but always uses it to do the actual fill.

Hi:

Both of the surgeon's at the group I went to do it by feel and fill. Usually not so bad.

Love my band!

I guess my incision scar is a good road map, and they just pop that needle right in by feel alone. I've had five fills, and they've never had to make more then one attempt each time.

My doctor has me lay down, put my feet together and raise my legs up about 12 inches. This pops the port right out at him. He also usually pulls out the old Fluid to make sure how much is in there, that way he can tell if there is any problem (leaking or missed the spot). Never had the scope thingy.

My doctor also has me do a sit up and then he does a feel and insert the needle then he has me sit up and remove all the liquid and then refill the port and have me overfills and then backs off a little while I drink some Water. He then has me drink some more water to make sure it does not come up.

My doctor does not use fluro scope. She feels around as I do a stomach crunch. She hits the spot every time, no digging around for it. I have the high profile port, so maybe that is easier to find.

I've had 3 fills. They feel, find the port, and put the needle in. Then I go over to the machine and they watch the Fluid go down. If it is too much, they take some out until it looks right. So they don't use it to find my port, just to make sure the fluid is going through the band like it should. Becky

i will be having my first fill as of 02.11 and my dr. said at my first follow up appt. that he would be using the flouroscopy for my first fill because i have a lot of belly fat around where he put the port so he wanted to make sure he gets it the first time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
