My band goes in tomorrow 22 Jan 09

:scared2:Hello all

I am happy to have found you. I can use all the help I can get these next few weeks. My family is not happy about this so they won't give me much support. which will make it harder for me. Today is my liquid diet day, as hard as it is they leave food around me and eat as they always did. Not being able to eat today is hard and it will be two weeks before I can move to the next level. I am sure it gets harder after being banded. I am glad to be here and hope you will help me through. Thanks

I am so happy for you that you are getting your band tomorrw. I had mine done in July 08, everything went perfect, no problems at all, not much pain or discomfort. If you are like I was after surgery you won't even care if you eat for about the first 4-5 day. Make sure you get in your protien and liquids. Shame on your family for not helping you.

Keep in touch and let me know how you are doing.

Congrats!!!!!!!! it's very sad about your family not supporting you and your decision to become healthy. i've lost 36 lbs from 326 start weight and already my diabetes AIC is at 5.8  it was never that high but it was still there and now it's non-existant! i am so happy for anyone making this choice. God Bless you and i know you will be happy with your decision. i have never felt better. my daughter came down to be with me during my surgery and of course wanted all our favorite restaraunts so i had that to put up with but i would never change this for the world. last year i chickened out, decided i could do it alone and lost 2 whole lbs in 1 year!!!! Good Luck and keep us posted on your progress.

your family will change their minds after you start losing the weight. Really after the band you are a little sore. I did not think about food much cause my stomach hurt (feels like you did way too many sit-ups). I had to go to soy Protein cause the whey stuff almost made me throw up. And yes it is difficult to avoid your favorite foods but it gets easier. After a few days you'll feel better and can get down more protein and Water and you feel even better. Just keep telling yourself that this was the right thing to do. When the scale starts moving down and you see those old familiar (and smaller) numbers, you will feel even better. Keep your chin up and stretch those face muscles. You'll need them for all the smiling that is soon to come.

Good luck tomorrow!

Remember this surgery is about YOU getting healthy. To hell what your family thinks! Have they ever been obese?

At first everyone was a little hesitant when I told them I was having surgery, but they've come around.

I was banded a week ago TODAY and I couldn't be happier:tongue2:

I wish you a healthy and smooth recovery!!

YOU ARE MY HERO!!!!

I get banded on 3/03and am more apprehensive about the pre and post op starvation cruelty, than the surgery itself! Myself, I don't post much, but I read just about every new post every day. I consider myself really fortunate to have so many friends here that I don't even know. I know that when my time comes, they will help me, as they will help you. Have a GREAT experience. I will join you soon.

Congrats on making this decision without your family's support (shame on them!) I was banded this last Monday (1/19) with my whole family on board supporting me. I will say that it has been great having them on board, but I would have done it without their support as well. Only WE know what is best for us and we need to take any and all actions to go forward.

As for the pre-op diet, I won't lie to you and say its not that bad, it really SUCKS but is the first test to see how serious you are about the surgery. Honestly, I was so relieved the fast was over on surgery day, I didn't have a care in the world about the actual procedure

Thanks to all of you for the support. I am having a little trouble finding my way around. Came back here by accident. How do I add the weight scale to my post, I have made one just can't add it. I put todays activies on as a blog. Please visit to find out how my day went. Thanks and could use advise on how to get around the site.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
