Staple foods/quick meals?

Recommended Posts

What are some of your favorite staple foods? Quick meals? I start my pre-op diet on the 29th and plan on going through our freezer/fridge/pantry and giving all the stuff I won’t be able to eat to my skinny friend's. I'd like to stock up on quick meals and what I should just keep around in my pantry for when I’m actually able to eat.

I bought the book "eating well after weight loss surgery" and she had some good staple foods to have around, but I’m curious to see what you all have around.

Also, if you go out to dinner, where do you go? what do you get?

I'm just trying to get some ideas! I appriciate it!

for me...for quick meals I enjoy scrambled egg whites omellette, tuna/chicken salads, cottage cheese (w/ salt and pepper), oatmeal, home made Soups (if you buy Soup look for low sodium / low fat),

as far as snacks...blended frozen fruit, jello/pudding or yogurt (some have added Vitamins and fiber). I hope this helps

I keep some Campbell's Soup at hand in the pantry. SF Jello pudding was my lifesaver after surgery. It was satisfying and very tasty. I used my food processor to make chicken and tuna salad.

Also, buy some of the 4 oz plastic containers. They are wonderful for serving and putting in the refrigerator a 1/2 c serving of everything.

Good Luck

I always have some of those individual serving apple-sauces. I like the pear flavor, but there are many different flavors for a variety. I keep the tiny individual serving dinty moore beef stews, raviolois, single serving Soups etc on hand when I travel for work, etc. Small cans of tuna or salmon. SF puddings, jellos are a staple.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
