Anyone else dying on your post op diet?

I know I am! I am on mushies and have been for 2 weeks or so and I am DYING to chew something! I am a picky eater and I am getting tired of eating the same 5 things over and over again! I am experiencing head hungry like everyone else is too. Man it sucks! I still have 2 weeks on mushies left and I can't wait to eat 'soft' foods!

Doesnt help that my husband eats those oh so good foods. chips and salsa is a favorite of mine and yep he eats it! He tries not to in front of me but sometimes he can hide it. He knows he is dead if he eats a burger or pizza in front of me though! The only 2 things I actually crave latley:drool:.

This post-op diet is okay. I just started mushies today and I am not "dying" on it but I have been afraid of eating more foods. I am trying very hard to stay away from the liquid diet but it's hard. I get weighed next week and I hope that I do not gain any weight from this. I am following everything that the nutritionist tells me. I weigh and measure everything. I have been walking too. Hopefully this feeling will pass soon.

the first "meal" I had on pureed was WW beef stew that my husband made. I took out an oz of the beef, a oz of the potato, and oz of carrot, took a little bit of the broth and put it in the blender - it was good. the next night he made a WW creole chicken - did the same thing, but this time, there was no potato, there was Tomato instead. that was good as well. monday I started thinking about it - I was making babyfood. so, I went on line googled homemade babyfood, and got some ideas. I made up a chicken dinner for myself and put a few of those in the freezer ready to go. tonight, I made lipton cup a Soup - broccoli cheese, took some left over ham in the blender - whala - broccoli,ham, cheese soup.

I have been on mine for eight days now and its getting better and better. I get to have a low fat mean (4-6 oz) and a non starchy veggie for dinner and last night. I couldn't even eat all four oz of my fish. i stopped when i was full.

I was dying on liquids, but mushies have been no problem. I AM a little bored, but it's not bad. I've been eating cottage cheese, yogurt, applesauce, hummus, scrambled eggs, split pea Soup (Andersen's has 18g Protein per can and is DElicious!) and of course sf pudding. There have been some cream Soups, tofu and well cooked carrots mashed with a fork. I will probably try some cream of wheat Cereal just to break up the monotony and I have some sweet potatoes waiting to be cooked and mashed.

Bella, I am sure you could have salsa, maybe blended a bit. It would be good with your beans! Good luck, you WILL get through this!

Try this, Bella:

Mocha Ricotta Creme

1/2 c. part-skim ricotta cheese

1/2 tsp. unsweetened cocoa powder

1/4 tsp. vanilla extract

1 pkg sugar substitute (like Splenda)

1 dash espresso powder

Mix together the ricotta, cocoa, vanilla, and Splenda in a small dessert bowl. (If you have a storage container with a lid, use that.) Serve chilled with just a dusting of espresso powder.

Ricotta Creme can be made in many, many flavors-- depending on what you have for flavored extracts. A little sweetening, some Splenda, and you have a creamy dessert! You can also whirl up a few berries and some Splenda in the food processor to make a fruit sauce for your ricotta creme if you don't have carb restrictions.

I couldn't eat 1/2 a cup, so a lidded storage container made it possible for me to save my "dessert" for the next meal.

As sick as I am of mushy foods, I'm almost afraid to start eating regular food in a few more days. I'm afraid it will send me on an eating spree. I'm currently feeling no restriction, but not much hunger either. I'm afraid that eating real food will send me in to that bandster hell I've heard about - where I'm battling hunger and willpower while possibly/probably gaining weight. :(

Has anyone from January yet started on solid/regular food? If so, how are you doing??

I'm doing fine, Bee. I've been eating solids for over a week, and while there have been challenges like learning to eat VERY SLOOWWWLLLLY, but overall it's easy to adjust. I blogged here about it.

Weight loss did slow down. I'll warn you about that. However, let's be reasonable. The phenomenal loss we experience at first is somewhat unhealthy.

Lena I will have to read your blog! I am starting soft solids in a week. I am nervous of things getting stuck or finding out the things I love (good for me foods, dont worry) wont agree with me. The only solid I slipped up on was chex. I have nibbled on a few dry chex and LOVED IT! I chewed the hell out of them to mush but still a slip up. I personally think I am ok and I have done so well with my diet that chex wont kill me.

But I am still plugging along on this diet! Super Bowl Sunday is one day before I can technically start my solids diet. I am going to call my nutritionist and ask her if I can start on Sunday.

tell me Bella, what are you going to attempt on Super bowl sunday?? I will probably be ready for some soft food, chew chew chew.....I love to make chile verde for the game, not sure if I can have that??? I hate the thought to making it and not having a taste! What's on your menu, or anyones elses???? Got banded on the 21st, Doc is requiring only 1 week of mushy then to soft.

I'll be serving a Cajun Stir-Fry instead of a high-carb chili.

1 T. olive oil

1/2 lb. boneless skinless chicken breast, cut into 1" cubes

1/3 lb. smoked turkey kielbasa, cut into 1/2" slices

1/2 c. chopped onion

2 cloves of garlic, pressed (I use the minced from a jar instead, about 1 tsp.)

3/4 c. chopped green bell pepper (about one pepper)

3/4 c. chopped red bell pepper

3/4 c. chopped yellow bell pepper

1/2 lb. fresh mushrooms, sliced

1 med. Roma Tomato, diced

3 tsp dried basil

3 tsp dried oregano

3 tsp. dried parsley flakes

1 tsp. Cajun seasoning (I recommend Tony Chacere's, if you can get it.)

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp pepper (fresh ground is best)

1 T. cornstarch

2 T. cold Water

Heat the oil in a skillet (I used my electric skillet) set to medium high heat. Stir fry the chicken, kielbasa, onion, and garlic until onion is transluscent and tender. Add the peppers, mushrooms, tomato, herbs, and seasonings, right up to the stars in the list. Cook and stir until the chicken is cooked through.

Take a small jar (baby food jars are great for this) and put in the cornstarch and Water. shake until you make a slurry. Add the mix to the skillet. (Wash that jar now!) Bring it all to a boil; cook and stir constantly until the sauce is thick. Serves 4, immediately.

Note to bandsters: cut that kielbasa up into tiny bits or you'll be very, very sorry.

Per serving:

235 calories

8g fat

25g Protein

17g carbs

4g dietary Fiber

89 mg cholesterol

875 mg sodium.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
