Family Response

Recommended Posts

I have a question and was not sure where to post it. I have a sister, with whom I do not get along with very well....Well, over the weekend, she noticed for the first time, my weight loss. I had lap band surgery on Sept 2, 2008. To date, I have lost 62 lbs and still loosing. Once I told my sister the reason I was loosing weight, her response to me, was that I was just trying to "one up" her. My personal belief is that she is very nervous because I am almost the same size as her now, if not already smaller. But how rude to just think I am trying to "one up" her. Trust me, the reason I went ahead with the surgery had NOTHING to do with her. I need help getting through this. I did not prepare myself mentally for all the emotional things that come along with looking and feeling so much better! Any suggestions would be wonderful! Thanks for taking the time to listen!!!

Just think about how healthy you are now and how good you look! She'll just have to get used to the new you. You're doing great. Congrats!

Just keep in mind that you did this for you and no body else. This is your time and don't let anyone take that away from. Be happy for yourself, keep moving forward and be positive. If she say's anything else, tell her that this is not about her, it's about you and your life, health and happiness.

Best of luck to you, and I'm sorry you are in that position.

Since you are not that close to your sister anyway, don't engage her. I don't engage negative family members. Yes, they are part of my life, but not on a daily basis. I keep my distance when it come to negative people.

Spend your time with positive supportive people.

Im so sorry your sister feels this way, I would just tell her she wasnt even in your thoughts when you did this. This is YOUR health and YOUR body. There is no need for her to ask like she is in high school again. Cynical family members are the reason most of our family dosent know about our bands. Im 18 (and have PCOS and a diabetic/heart diseased father) and my mother and I both were banded this past April. The only people who know about our bands are my father, brother, mom's mother nad sister (both very supportive.) We prolly will never tell any of dads family since my grandmother can be rather callous at times and my aunt has ALWAYS batttled wither her wait and to tell her would be asking for trouble. Sure there are certain ppl who suspect something but asside from my husband (when the time comes) i probably wont tell anyone about my band. This discision is because if you plataue teh cynical ones will be asking stuff like, ïs your free ticked stop working?" Ï knew the easy street was a dead end" etc etc.

So dont give up, (btw congrats on 62lbs!!!), and if your sister brings it up again telle her flat out is yoru health that was at stake so she either live with you slim or waiting for a heart attack (or some other complication of being overweight) and just leave it at that.

Good luck, Chelsey

Maybe a reminder that your life does not, in fact, revolve around her. (or just kick her in the clam and tell her to STFU. :( )

Tell her. I hate to dissappoint you, but this is NOT about you. It's about ME and MY health. As far as comments from you. Save them. I don't need them. Jealousy can be a very ugly thing. Don't let her get to you. Since you don't get along well anyway, just keep your distance for now until she decides to grow up and behave herself.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
