Can you feel your port?

Recommended Posts

Like the others my port is directly behind the big incision. I did have some pain under my left bottom rib but that is not where the port is. I asked my Dr when I went in for my 2 week visit post op. he would not give me a fill due to the fact that it was not healed enough. it is tender and prob will be for a while. I have to really push to feel it but I also have a fatty belly.

Well, my port is located to the far left of my stomach above the belly button by 2 to 3 inches. I don't even go touching that area. When I shower, I just let the Water and soap glide over that stomach area. I know I am silly!

Ok, I laughed after reading your last line. Take this as funny, but my first thought was a sarcastic-

"No kidding, a fatty belly? None of the rest of us have that problem..."

LOL. I have to push hard to feel mine too. I feels like a nickle sized "scar tissue" area. Watch me go to my first fill in a couple weeks and find out that's not my port at all!!!

I am watching my fatty belly getting less fatty and more droopy. My fat rolls aren't as hard or big as they used to be, so it is transferring from fatty to flappy:lol:

I was always more pear shaped and could feel my port from the word go. Nowadays it actually sticks out, you can see it.

A low profile port is a smaller version of the Lapband brand port. My surgeon used it saying I had a "thin abdominal wall", and no, I did not pay her more for that comment

Mine is on the left side below the bra line & above the belly button line.I was scared to feel it at first too.Now that I have lost some weight I can defnitely feel it more easily.I too heard that it can "stick" out when you lose a considerable amount of weight. But it cant stick out as much as my big gut from before! LOL

Anyway my surgeon found it no problem for my first fill and I try not to worry to much about it........It's our friend!!

I could feel mine right from the beginning. Now that I have lost weight it sticks out a lot. Actually if I wear a tight fitting shirt you can actually see it.

I am 6 1/2 months out - my port is so close under my skin that I can feel the whole thing - it is literally right under my skin - I did not have much fat in that area on my left side - I am thinking about having the incision recut and the port pushed down because it sticks up like a goose egg. Sometimes when I eat more than I should it gets sore there not sure why

now that I am almost 2 weeks post op I have been "feeling around" I am pretty sure that I can feel it now. It is basically RIGHT under my incision. I was thinking it wouldnt be right there. I can feel it pretty easy, so I am HOPING that it isnt going to be sticking out one day :scared2:

My port flipped but I didn't know it until I went in for my 3rd fill. The first two went fine. We are still not sure why it happened. My dr has done over 1000 bands, I was the first to flip. So it is not a common thing. I can feel my port and it doesn't feel like it is flat, but I have never had a problem since, so it must be in position.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
