Husband has questions also

Recommended Posts

My wife is scheduled for lap band on 6 Feb. Was wondering about diet menu's and frequency of preparing meals, Protein Drinks and everything else. I am reading the Dr's directions and took time off work for two weeks following her surgery to help out with everything.

Wow. Unless your wife is already disabled, she shouldn't need a nursemaid after the surgery. In fact, the doctor wants his patients to be up and about to get the gas moving post surgery. I had my surgery on Wednesday and was back at work the following Monday. My husband took the day of surgery off so he could drive me to the hospital and stay stay at home with me for the remainder of the day but by the next day, I was perfectly fine. The first few days post surgery, she can only have liquids anyway so there's no cooking necessary.

I agree with Donna113; unless there are complications or additional difficulties expected, you shouldn't really need that two weeks off. Maybe just a couple of days if you have small children? It's sweet of you to do that though! Personally, the only time I needed any help was the day of surgery. My husband drove me home, got me some Water, and helped with my meds that night, but by the next day I was hobbling around able to do everything for myself. I was in some pain and was tired, but didn't need any assistance. As far as specific instructions for meals and drinks, whatever your wife's doctor has directed is the best to follow.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
