bohica1224 0 Posted January 20, 2009 i'm seriously thinking about joining a rugby team and the first practice is tomorrow... but i'm wondering if me playing such a violent sport would effect my band? could i do damage to it it i got hit really hard??? i would like to get your opinions... thanks micah
Jachut 487 Posted January 20, 2009 I'd say the risk isnt really that high, I mean you can get seriously injured anyway kind of thing..... the band doesnt put you at any more risk than that. I played three games of basketball last year to fill in, but I wont join the team as I've been invited to do. At 41, I'm waaaaaaay too afraid of an ankle or knee injury and not being able to run. I really dont think its worth the risk, I dont bounce quite like I did when I was 15. But if I loved and was dedicated to the sport I would do it, for sure. mediummike 0 Posted January 20, 2009 Agree with Jacqui - cant imagine the band adding any additional risk to injury. Always good to run it by your doc..
evobuilder 0 Posted January 23, 2009 hey... I box! Well, not professionally, but I box and I spar. Yes, there is risk of dislodging my port, but not much of one. I have had a couple direct hits (feels like getting punched with by someone with a pocketwatch in their hand but no issues. Do I reccomend boxing for all... probably not, but you should not do what you want to... if it's Rugby, play! Just check with your doc so they know what to watch for when you come back for a fill. oye, oye, oye!
OneHotMama 0 Posted January 23, 2009 I was wondering the same thing. I play women's tackle football (yes, it exists and no I'm not a lesbian) but think I'm going to take this season off since I'm newly banded. My Doc said there shouldn't be a problem but the port site may hurt when it gets hit, like having a rock between you and what's hitting you. I'm hoping by next season at a much lighter weight I can go for Tight End instead of the Fat lineman (offensive tackle):tt2: hehe

I would love to competitively sail again. Though, the class I am shooting for is physically demanding.
