few days out and scared

Recommended Posts

Well I had my surgery Tueday the 13th so far I have been ok. I still have pain getting up and down and the bathroom situation is another story. But other than the pain of surgery I don't feel anything as far as restriction is this normal? My doctor allows for the first two weeks 2 shakes and 1 blended meal, I'm hoping I blended my food good enough, nothing has bother me but could something happpened like the band slipping or anyhing else?

I'm alittle mad that I feel this way (no restriction) I really want to lose the weight but I'm so afraid it won't happen. So basicly I want to know if it is normal not to feel restriction before your first fill and damage that food that is not blended well do.

Thanks for your help...this has been such a great help throughout my process I would have been lost without it!!!

I didn't/don't feel a lot of restriction, but I am still on full liquids (hooray, I can start blending this week). My doctor does not fill at the time of surgery. So far, the Protein Shakes seem to do ok for me - at least, after finishing one I feel more full than I used to and it seems to last longer (not saying I haven't had a couple episodes of extreme hunger, but I got the ok for a Protein Water :>)

I guess everyone is different. I also had my surgery onthe 13th and I definitely feel the restriction. I've lost 8 pounds since the surgery and can last on probably less than 1/2 of what I could consume pre-op.

Everyone is very different after surgery, I myself did not feel any restriction and I didn't expect to. Some people swell more than others and the best advice I got when I was feeling frustrated was that this was the time to focus on recovering and not looking for restriction. They were right on :scared2: Good luck to all of you guys!

Oh, I forgot the other part of your post, what will eating what you are not suppose to, do? Well, if you eat something that you are not suppose to during the healing process and your stomach is moving around trying to digest you are not allowing the band to settle into place and the healing really cannot begin (this is what my surgeon said).

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
