vomiting huge amounts of stomach acid

Recommended Posts

I have no idea whats wrong but for the past 2 weeks Ive been vomiting large amounts of stomach acid. There is nothing stuck I am sure of it, I havent really eaten. It happens even with liquids or Soup. Heres the scenerio, I eat or drink a small amout, and about 1.5 to 2 hours later i feel like theres battery acid in my stomach, and I start vomiting, I would say about a liter at a time sometimes more, and its just clear to cloudy Fluid. It tastes like I ate 6 pounds of sweet tarts and then threw up, the burn is intense, usually after about the 6th or 7th round of vomiting, which could be about 5-8 hours later, it is only bile coming up.

My band is only filled 3cc in a 10 cc band, Ive had it filled more before so it cant be too tight......Im thinking I have something else wrong, i.e. ulcer, erosion, etc. But I have no idea where to start.....I have an appointment on Wednesday but I know hes gonna tell me my bands too tight and take my fill out......I think theres more to it then just that.....pls any suggestions would greatly help

Thanks

Wendy

See your band doc first, tell him the symptoms & your concernes, if they just think you need an unfill (which from the sounds of it, may be something more--although it could just be too tight!), go see your General Practitioner for a 2nd opinion.

Hi Wendy. I just returned from my visit to the doctor today for some of the same things you are experiencing. I didn't vomit quite as much as you do, but it was pretty bad. Plus I had the acid real bad when I laid down at night to go to sleep. What sent me running back was the tightness in my throat...very scary. Anyway, he told me that all of these are classic symptoms of an overfill. I know, those are dreaded words. I truly did not want an unfill, but went along with what he suggested.I had 6.5 cc's in a 10 cc band. They took out half. He said it may take a full month for my body to heal. Then we can re-evaluate how much of a fill I should have. But I felt better immediately after the unfill. Almost all of the acid has stopped. They explained to me that the opening to my stomach is very small and there isn't anywhere for the acid to go except up...as in vomiting. I hope this helps some. I know how scary it is to be going through what you are going through. Just call your doctor and talk to him. Let me know what happens. I care. Pam

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
