Well, I lost my hair when I was diagnosed with lupus cause of all the medicines and stuff but oil of rosemary helped me alot. I am african american so I put it in my hair grease . If you are caucasian I recommend using it in your leave in conditioner just pour it in the conditoner bottle. It is kind of expensive and they come in small bottles liquid form. They also come in pill form which helps tremendously. You can find it at any health food store! Hope this helps, DeeDee

how long have you been banded, and what is your protien like? How long have you been loosing your hair?

We need more information.

If your doc says not to worry, then get a second doc's opionion, and/or don't worry

Hi, I was banded on 4/21/05, I don't keep track of my Protein intake, but I drink shakes, have eggs, tuna and such......I am taking extra Calcium, and Biotin, as well a multi Vitamins.

I can't for the life of me figure out what to do next.....I have been having hair loss for about 1 month, I lose what seems like goobs when I shower.

Thanks for any info you have.

Thanks DeeDee, I will try the Rosemary oil.....Thanks, for advising.....

Start keeping track of your protien for a little bit and see what you think you are averaging. You usually need 60+ grams of protien so if you aren't getting that much, you might have your culprit...

I agree, you need to make sure your protien is up there, at least 50grams a day-minimum. You may think you are taking in more than you are. Try to get in 20 per meal. I have heard that Hair loss is one of the side effects of the band. Just think Protein. On the food site, there is a website for protein chips w/ 20 grams for a little bag. Check it out-- $10 for a sample box of 5 different types. I just ordered some myself. Try eating roast beef and cheese or chicken instead of tuna. Fish oil is real good for your hair also.

My hair has been falling out also the last year (way before this band diet). I finally went to a hormone specialist and she did more blood tests than I thought existed! Even tho my thyroid was not abnormally low it was on the "low end" and she put me on thyroid med. I've been taking it for about 6 weeks and finally NEED to shave under my arms again. (Who'd think I'd miss THAT?) Anyway, you might get this tested. You can be low w/o the test showing it. Other symptoms are dry skin, low energy (although that could be anything) and especially loosing hair from the outside of your EYEBROWS! (Certainly true in my case.)

I lost some of my hair during month 4 but it does grow back. Mine did ,and I have thin hair to boot! I think we have the same surgeon,Dr.Kwon he told me to take the Centrum chewables and watch my Protein intake but also to make sure I am getting in some veggies too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
