I know I'm probably bugging all of you to death, but your help has really been getting me through these early days of the band. Today, when I woke up (5 days post op), I felt like I was on the verge of choking. Its almost like I have something stuck in the back of my throat. Is this normal? My doctor told me that he put the 10cc band on and "its pretty snug" and I'm fearing that it is too snug. If that's the case, will they have to go back in and put the 14 cc on or will it loosen as I lose some weight?

This is such a foreign land. I did at least 2 years of research on this before I did it, but now I feel so ignorant in many things. Its really a matter of there's no way to fully prepare until you do it.

Thanks,

Several times in the first week or so, I'd feel like I was choking when I laid down on my back. But, after that the feeling subsided. It WAS pretty scary at the time though!

Are you able to drink plenty of fluids? If not, call your doctor. You definitely don't want to get dehydrated.

And yes, the swelling will go away, and as you lose weight your stomach will get thinner, too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
