Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Seeking Mentor

Recommended Posts

"In your post, please share information about yourself such as age, gender, marital status, occupation, geographical location, amount of weight lost, amount of weight to lose, etc."

HI! I was banded 12/31/08 and have my first fill 2/03/09. I have lost 19 pounds of my 129 pound goal. I am 36, female in a long term relationship. I live in MO and work as an analyst in the finance industry. I think that answers all the questions above.

I am looking for a female mentor in her 30's who's weight loss goal was over 100 pounds similar to mine. Someone who has been there and done that and kicked butt!

THANKS!

I accept!! We are in this together! I know I need a swift kick in the a** sometimes. Just about everyday I log my food in the food thread "share ideas- what did you eat today?" I have recently joined curves and I work out 4-5 times a week. I also walk 2-3 times a week on top of that. I never exercised the first several months after my surgery. Then I realized that I had to. I also think I have hit a plateau now. I lost 2# in December and have lost nothing for January!! I was thinking that I'm not getting enough calories now that I am working out consistently! By the way...what is your name?

I haven't started working out yet, walk about 4 times a week which I know isn't enough. I am still in the mushy stage of the diet, but I have been testing the waters with solid foods, and no issues yet with exception to bread. I am trying to stick to 3 meals and 1 snack daily. I need to start incorporating a Protein smoothie for my evening snack because am worried not getting enough Protein. I haven't started counting calories yet, that will start after my fill on 2/3.

Thanks for your help! We can do it!

Deanna:wink:

My favorite way to drink a Protein Shake is to put a spoonful of pb and ice then blend! I use EAS chocolate fudge from Walmart. I crave these shakes, plus it helps that I love ice cream and this kind of replaces that for me. I am an ice cream addict. I did good not having a snack but now I have 2 sometimes 3 a day. Mostly healthy but not always. Maybe when winter is over and we are not cooped up so much it will be better for me.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
