I have SUCEEDED!

Recommended Posts

I have had good results with my lapband. Post op (03-08). I have lost 115 lbs. I would recommend it to anyone. I was on 13 different types of medicine an was on my 8th surgery in 3 years. Nothing that is worth it is easy. But everything has been worth it all for these results. When you go from a size 30/32 to an 8/10 you have all the incentiive you need.I have never worn these smaller sizes since 2nd grade. I can actually walk in almost all stores an find something that fits me.But the main thing is I am off all medications an I am healthier than I have ever been. I have energy to keep up with my 5 year old son. I feel like I never want to sleep I have so much energy I want to keep doing an have to make myself go to bed. I thank God for allowing me to have the LP.My insurance would not pay for this to be done so we had to have the money up front . It was $22,000.00. Dr. Makami was my Dr. I couldn't of had a better or nicer Dr to go thru this with me. His office staff was tremendous an helped me with anything at any time. My LB did slipped in October. I had gotten the flu an I lost a lot of weight an the band slipped down over half of my stomach when I was getting sick.

I had a 2nd band put in October 2008. Since than I have had no problems. I have started to hit a plateau as far as loosing. But that is ok with me I am using this time to excercise an tighten up the skin from loosing the weight.

I would recommend this surgery to anyone with health problems. I didn't realize how much I was missing until I was able to lose the majority of the weight. May you all be BLESSED like God has BLESSED me thru this whole procedure.

you are one of the few positives I have seen here. Every one else is chocking, throwing up, suffering from gas pains PBing and salivating like a St. Bernard.

I am supposed to go in in the morning and I am seriously thinking of backing out. I take a ton of meds and need to loose 90 more pounds. But thes comments are making me wonder if it's the right way to go.

I don't know what to do.

Homer1:

I went from 324 to 199 April 07 to April 08, and now I'm down to 176. I never could have done it without my band. I have only had one complication. I had to get my gallbladder out because of gallstones. They can be caused by sudden, large weight loss.

Best wishes to you whichever way you decide. My only regret with my band is that I didn't get it done sooner.

Best of luck.

Sue

Only you can make this decision. But my experience thru all of this . I would recommend it to anyone with health problems especiall an weight problems. even if I do not loose another pound it has been worth everything I have gone thru good or bad. I will actually get to see my little boy grow up an I am also able to play ball an basketball with him now. The Lord will see you thru this He has gotten you this far He will see you thru to the end of this journeyalso!

Took me longer to lose the weight, but I did it with no choking, or throwing up, or any of the issues you mentioned homer. Have I PB'd? Yes 2 times. I learned, and I was never too tight. But I have my life back-----and right along with the others, the only change I would make is having done it long ago, and had many more healthy years!

Long Live our Bands!

Did I read somewhere that some doctors are requiring an ultrasound of the Gallbladder before the surgery and possibly removing it during the LB procedure?

Thanks Christy

I hope you went through with it. I just got banded on 12/31 and have had NO issues at all with exception to gas right after surgery. I have already lost 19 pounds since, please do this....you are worth it!

Congrats, naynay, and all the rest of you who have worked with your bands to find success.

Homer1, look at the threads that say 'would you do it again?'. I think they run >90% yes.

My take, from spending much time on the board and from having a band myself, is that those people whose psychological addiction to food is profound, and who can't or won't follow the plan, or who are expecting the band to do it all for them (and thus want their bands extremely tight, so that they don't have to be disciplined), are the ones more likely to run into trouble. I have not had ANY of the problems described- which I like to think is because I have followed instructions to a T. Eat the right things, eat them slowly, listen to your body, and chances are things will go well.

Yes, some folks just have plain bad luck, follow the rules, and still get into trouble. But I think that's much less common.

I'd do it again in a heartbeat. And I paid cash.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
