January 21st Banders

Recommended Posts

Well, I just wanted to introduce myself to my bretheren who are getting baned on the 21st. I can't believe its only a couple days away and I stuck to the no solids diet...man I could use some taco bell or a burger :huh2:

Anyway...good luck to all, we will make it through this!

Welcome!! I too am being banded on the 21st. The liquid diet is tough I thought the crave for yummy food would get easier as the week goes by but it hasn't. Nothing I can't manage but boy I sure am hungry for something solid and filling. Best of luck to you.

Welcome all! I have to say, that I thought this would be harder (its not easy, just not as hard as I expected.) I fully expected to be cranky, dizzy, headachy (I do get some headaches due to no caffine) and hungry all of the time. I find the Protein Shakes do a pretty good job of filling me up...which honestly worries me a bit...I feel like I may not be doing this right. I guess we will find out in 2 days, but for now, I will keep following the guidelines set out for me by the docs office. I won't lie, I cheated a TINY bit...I ate some olives, not to fill me up but for the texture I think. It has stopped and I wont eat any more, but I do feel bad about it.

I too am getting banded on the 21st. I have been on a liquid diet since the 14th. It has been hard at times but I actually think it has been easier than I thought it would. I usually have a double serving of a Protein shake three times a day and drink a lot of Water. The hardest part is just being around other people that are eating.

Tomorrow is a clear liquid diet for me, no Protein shakes and pretty much all Water and crystal lite mixes in the water...not looking forward to it. I think I am going to have my last diet soda for a long time.

I think everything will get easier after the surgery after the experience of a week of liquid diet and not struggling too much with it.

I am home now and pretty much feeling fine. I have the gas pain at times but for the most part I feel fine laying down. I have had almost 64 oz of liquid and took a walk for about 1/2 a block twice. How is everyone else doing? Everything went great for me.

I am doing great now but surgery was a day from hell for me. If was very nauseated in the hospital so they gave me Phenergan which totally knocked me out. My surgery was outpatient and we were not supposed to go home until after we used the bathroom. I was unable to go so they sent me home saying I should be able to go once home....nope didn't happen. So I called the doctor and he had me drive back to the hospital ER to be cathed. From entrance to exit I was in the ER 5 hours. Yesterday was a good day and the gas issues are getting better but they were really bad surgery day it hurt so bad to try and lay down to sleep. I know each day will be a bit later but I must admit I thought it was going to be a quicker recovery.

I am home as well. I had a bit of an issue however. My Anesthesiologist couldnt get the tube down my esophogus and continued to shove the tube town about 5 or 6 times, ramming it down my throat. My surgeon told me that after I reported that I couldnt swallow my own saliva. They convincced them to give me a medical grade bottle of Cetacaine for the pain and said that would get better in about 3 days...till then, drinking is going slow...no idea how I will down 64oz a day. As for the band incisions, no problem at all, very little pain, and NO gas pain. Asside from the lousy tube issue (not my surgeons fault) I am pleased so far.

I went for a walk today and am drinking fine. I have some gurgling and some inside gas, if that makes sense, but for the most part I feel great. Every once in a while i get like a lump in my throat but it passes with a belch or a nice deep breath. I honestly can not believe how easy everything is and how little pain or discomfort I am in. I am about to go for another walk and probably will again later.

Keep up the good work everyone!!!!

reporting in, so far doing pretty good. Last couple of days, day of surgery and yesterday, good not hungry. But today, somewhat hungry. I had watered down tomatoe Soup, and having my liquid Protein drink. What i would like to know how much to too much calories for the day? I know to keep 50 gms of Protein, doing that, but feel like I am not getting enough calories to feel full. Any suggestions, how many slimfast can I have through out the day?

As far as pain, none. no real gas problem, walking around the block with ease.

good luck to us 21st banders:thumbup:

I am eating Soups (sans chunks) but doubt I am getting the Protein I need since I am unable to swallow due to my complications. That is getting better slowly, so maybe I will TRY one today and see what happens. I hope I am not doing this all wrong...

I have not been worrying about calories. I have just been having my Protein shakes and some Water and Popsicles and do not really feel hungry. I have had some Soup, thrown in a blender and made totally liquid of course, and that has helped to have some sense of normalcy.

Just got back from the surgeons office today and I have lost 9 pounds.

Have any of you gone back to work yet. I worked the last two days and they were the worst two days since surgery. My surgeon said I need to relax more and suggests I do not work any more this week but I think I will not work tomorrow and work half days Thursday and Friday.

I intentionally didnt go back to work, just to allow myself time to heal. I am going for my first post surgery appt. on Thursday but to be honest, I am starting to get hungry...the docs said I may be moved off of the liquid only diet quicker than the 2 weeks recomended.

I went back to work Monday and it was awful but Tuesday was much better. I have a desk job but sitting up so straight puts a lot preasure on my incisions. My gas came back yesterday too so it hurt everytime I took a breath. I get hungry at meal times but it doesn't take much to satisfy me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
