Help! Stuck capsule!!

Recommended Posts

I am really curious to hear if the coke helps. I take papaya tablets and they don't dissolve what is stuck like they are supposed to, but they do make whatever is stuck come right up

I wouldn't worry so much about the small amount of meat tenderizer, but since it seems to be floating, I doubt it would do much especially as diluted with chocolate as it would be!! LOL

You poor thing!!

The diet coke did NOT work. It actually made it feel like it was bigger in there for a short time and swelling up while I was drinking it and after. It's still there. I don't have any tenderizer or that would be next. Looks like I might go to bed with it tonight if I can sleep. If it's still there tomorrow, I will try to reach the Dr. I suppose. I have a feeling he won't be much more help than you guys have been or I should say won't be as much help. You guys are great!

Actually your doc may want you to go have it removed. It's not fun but nothing like what you've already gone through. Good luck! I can't believe that's still there.

Yeah, the doctor can remove it with a scope. We had a girl who swallowed gum once and had to have it removed that way.

Hopefully you're okay now but eating solid food pushes the capsule down and works 9 out of 10 times. My doctor prescribed this when my daughter swallowed a quarter that got wedged up in her esophagus. I've used it since to get a stubborn pill or two down.

Well, I guess I tried everything but the solid food!!! Read that one too late!! Anyway, I could not sleep last night. After the diet coke I had gas build up in my stomach and side much worse than post surgery. This, along with the capsule still stuck!! I had not been to the local casino in months so I decided to go there to take my mind off it. And, I won $1200!! I couldn't stay and chance losing any of my winnings as the stomach pain was quite severe so I went home and finally went to sleep around 6 AM with the capsule still stuck and actually feeling like it swelled bigger (perhaps it was getting ready to open finally). I slept till noon and when I woke........relief finally!! I felt like I had a lot of phlegm and have all day. I also continued to have gas pain when sitting. I drank that diet coke way too fast. I see why we are not to have it! I really felt my regular meds going down and I have stuck to liquids and soft food today as there could be swelling I guess. I hope to never go through that again and sure do appreciate everyone who tried to help. I'm still impressed with our resident scientist, who without, I still would be puzzled as to why that capsule stuck and would not go down, when it is the same size as another I take. In the future if I want to take a new capsule, I am first going to put it in a cup of hot tea to see how long it takes to dissolve (I'm serious)! Thanks again. All the suggestions given in this thread will probably help some who have stuck food issues.

I'm really glad you're feeling better. Having things stick like that is so traumatic. You did well in handling it. I'm not so sure I would have been so cheerful. :wink2:

what a coincidence you won that $1200- that is my consultation fee on this site for helping out with lap band issues!

did you end up calling your doc and asking what you should have done?

inquiring minds need to know!!!

I just saw this and wanted to say that I am so GLAD you're okay now! What an ordeal!

Finally being able to sleep probably relaxed you enough to drop that thing through! And congrats on the win! Whoo Hoo!

You're right to do liquids and soft foods for a few days. Your insides are probably very irritated and can use the break from regular food.

Take good care!

LOL on the novel Annie. Sorry, Banded, can't share the winnings, but now you know what to do next time you decide to partake in some baby carrots!!!

No, I never did call the Dr. since it was gone when I woke. I will ask him next time, but he assured me it would never happen!!!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
