Hi Guys,I'm not actually Bandicote, but the hubbie of and i thought it would be neet to have a thread that i can spell badly and compare notes with other male supporters.

My wife goes in 6 Feb 09 ,and i would love to know from a husbands perspective on what to expect as i really want to understand what the cook is going to deal with ???.

So lets support the supporters (we all need love and hugs)

Heya!

I think it's great your taking a big step in getting to know what to expect when your wife gets this surgery done. It's certainly a big step in her life and yours as well. I am a hubby but I am the one that got banded but I have to say my wife has been extremely supportive and has been there with me all through the process. The best thing you can do is listen to your wife for her needs and wants. When she talks about exercising do it with her. When she talks about eating healthier do it with her. Not that you have to do the liquid diets or that you have to eat as little as she will but that you eat healthy with her. That you be right there to support her all the way. Don't look at this as something that she is doing on her own but that it's something that the two of you are doing together. Sure she is the one getting the surgery which I am sure will go very well but that you two are working together to live and healthier and happier life together.

Best of luck to her and to you!

My wife and I were both banded on the same day on 9/12/07 and between the both of us we have lost almost 200 lbs.

The nurses at the hospital thought it was cute that we were doing this together. It certainly has not been an easy journey but one that we would both do over again.

Best of luck to your wife and her new journey having support at home is key.

It's so refreshing to see supportives spouses on here...As one of the LUCKY women to have one myself ( he even did the 2 week liquid diet with me and has continued to eat what I eat) I think it will make your spouses even more succssessful at their weight loss not having to worry that their spouse is going to feel displaced as they lose weight...KUDOS:thumbup:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
