Depends on your surgeon. According to mine, yes.

I am post op 3+ months. Tried drinking sprite once and wow. You reallly feel it. You have to drink it slow. But I have a friend that drinks sprite on a regular bases and she has a band and is post op 1+ year. All depends, everyone is different. My surgeon told me not to. I really chose not to drink soda because of the calories anyway. Maybe down the road when I am at my goal weight I might drink a little soda once in a while. Good luck.

I was told no soda and I have not tried it. (I am post op 3 months.) Sometimes I'm tempted but it hasn't been difficult. I was not much of a beer drinker, funny thing, I've found myself craving a beer more than a soda. Weird.

My surgeon says yes. It varies person to person. It does not stretch your lap band pouch as we used to think. If you want to get down to healthy weight though its not going to be by drinking soda or diet soda. Water and iced tea he said.

does lap band mean the end of seltzer ,soda ,beer etc for life?

My doctor recommends that we don't drink these types of products and because I didn't drink them pre-band, it has been a non-issue for me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
