How Many Exercise Gadgets Do You Own?

Recommended Posts

And how much do you actually use? Be honest, I know the truth.

I had two gym memberships, 5 tapes, 3 machines, hand weights, a pully doorknob thingy, and a bunch of other dusty useless crap.

I did the most amazing, liberating thing that lifted 10,000 pounds off my shoulders. I got rid of it ALL. Every bit of it, including the gym memberships. I went to Walmart and bought a yoga pad and a simple barbell (Danskin has cute colorfully padded girly cute ones.)

Now I walk my dogs, swim, ride my mountain bike, dance, hike, go motorcycle riding, walk the malls, clean my house lots more, etc. I do fun stuff and normal calorie-burning exercise, then I do some plain old fashioned sit ups and push ups and pump that barbell 25-50 times. Done.

Nobody should have to kill themselves to be healthy. I'm doing just enough to keep my heart happy and my muscles toned.

Some of you may have grown up thin, but I've been fat my whole life. If God wanted me skinny, it would have happened by now. My journey hasn't ended, it's just begun. LIVE, LOVE, LAUGH.

So get rid of them, sell them all and buy a raft to float on! It feels so good to be free of all that useless crap because it was just a daily reminder that I wasn't using it.

Different story if you actually use the stuff, but all my friends have the same crap, and I've seen the dust bunnies, oh yes I have!

My point is to use what Mother Nature gave you! If she gave you motivation to use the gizmos you purchased, that's great. But if they haven't been used in a year, studies show they probably never will.

lol WOW! Well, my dad tries to use them. I LOVE THE TREADMILL, cant wait to use it after I am light enough. See...I dont like to walk on the road because I am afraid that if I pass out or even go too far and cant walk back. With the treadmill I am just in the office. Now the bike is going to be awesome, once I can use it. Dad bought it because the orthopedic surgeon told him it was a good idea, the next time we spoke to the surgeon he told us we were crazy and that I need to rest my legs as much as possible and just try to do stretches. LOL my luck, I get a crazy specialist

Thankfully, I have a 800 sq ft house so I haven't kept my stuff.

Stuff I have given away over the years

Total Gym

Walk away the pounds tapes, belt, etc (I can do it without the tapes by now)

20 plus exercise videos

Stationary bike

old treadmill

Stuff I have and don't use

Ab roller (stupid thing)

Stuff I have and use some (enough to justify keeping)

Treadmill

t-tapp exercises (if anyone is interested, I have the old videos but I'm only using the DVDs now - I would give the videos away)

weighted tennis shoes (strengthens my ankle muscles to the point where I can wear high heels now)

weighted squishy balls (from walk away tapes) - I keep them in my office and lift them when I'm on the phone

okay, that's all I can input before my morning coffee

Okay, here goes mine

I bought a very expensive proform treadmill that I've used once (didn't work cause the kids sit and stare at me, or I have to get off every 2-3 minutes cause their fighting or getting into something, it just didn't work)

I have the zumba tapes

I have the firm tapes

I have hand weights

I bought a years worth of curves membership and went for 4 months-had to buy out of the second year cause your membership automatically renews if you don't give them 30 day notice of cancellation -got in big fight with owner

Bought the South Beach Diet Book

The Atkins Diet Book

Did slimfast shakes (still have tons in refrigerator at work from last year)

Signed on for the Optifast - that was really expensive _Went for a month and quite they wanted to sue me for breech of contract and then I told them that since I hadn't been supervised by their doctor their contract wasn't valid, so they laid off.

Ab roller - hubby bought this

Large weight station

punching bag

I've been on tons of medications (prescribed by dr)

and over the counter

trimspa

hydrocycut (sp?)

dexatrim

metabolife (with ephedra and without)

some Patches you would put on your back

herbalife

The last time I was going to try some drops you would put in Water and then I found out they were made with roach leg oils, the lady promised me that she had lost 25 lbs the first month, oh my... I'm glad those desperate days are over.

Oh and tons and tons of aerobic classes over the years and just yesterday I bought something that will be worth it, cause I love to walk. I bought a double jogging stroller for my kids and I to go walking, now I just have to figure out when to go, cause dance is fixing to start and they are already doing cheerleading, I was thinking I could walk them to cheerleading practice and then go off with my son and walk during their practice and then pick them up and walk home. What do you think? I hope this is not going to be another useless item in my house.

Ive never invested money in any exercise crap - only own 1 walking video. Thats it. I cant take the clutter of things I dont use. Oh yea, and I do have a couple of dumb bells *somewhere* that were bought for me to tone up these bat wings. Used 'em for a couple of weeks.

I think a lot of it has to do with my mom having all this exercise equipment and NEVER using it. Almost like having it for display (like a trophy) to show visitors that you have something to help you lose weight - but its obvious that its never used.

Im thinking about joining a local fitness center. But being the realist that I am, Im having to weigh the odds to make sure that Im going to use it - and NOT waste that membership.

I hate exercising. Plain and simple. But at this point, my band has done its duty - and its my responsibility to pull my end of the rope... this means its time to exercise.

Vera, I said things you DON'T use! Hahaha!

maybe that's the point! She's not using it and this is Vera's subtle way of showing off that she's getting some

lol...

I have some hand weights I got for my arms, but I only used those about a week. I have a pilates DVD that I was using religiously for quite a while, but that dwindled away after i went on vacations (because I wasn't seeing results, so my brain thinks it's ok to not do it now), and at my mom's house we just got a healthrider that she wants to use, and I'm allowed to go over and use. I've used it once so far, and I've been staying in her house all week, lol...

Sheesh... I'm so horrible...

None, I am too cheap to buy something I am not going to use and if it isn't being used I would haul it to goodwill or through it away because I HATE clutter.

The only 2 things I have, I use.

My iPod for when I walk and when I am traveling

A set of weights I use to keep my arms from getting flabby.

Okay Vera, fess up.........you know we all want to know.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
