nearly at goal and complete unfill.

Recommended Posts

Hi Gals

Last week I had to get a complete unfill after bad heartburn ,not being able to eat Protein and finally not being able to drink a Protein shake or tea.

I'm not allowed to get a fill for 4 weeks and the Doc wants me to have under flouro as I had also stretched my pouch on one side.

I am going to get my fill in 8 weeks so that is 9 weeks of bandster hell before I get to start all over again.

I have already gained 5lbs and can't get back on the wagon I'm so frustrated as I only had 6lbs to loose. AARGH.

Sorry just had to vent.

Nicole,

Sorry you're having to deal with this. Especially so close to goal. That must be maddening.

Hang in there and try to make the best food choices that you can. I know there's kind of a freedom when you no longer have restriction and it's tempting to go hog wild, eating things you normally can't. But as you can already see, the weight is all to happy to jump back on when you do so. You can do this.

It may be that your weight will go up some, but you can minimize the damage. You can up your exercise to make up for the extra calories you may be eating in your larger portions. You could eat more filling foods that will give you a feeling of fullness for longer, like meats and whole grains. I'm against going hungry, so I know I would make sure I'm eating when I need to, but trying to make healthy and low-calorie choices.

Just hang in there. This too shall pass and even if you do gain more weight, you have the band inside you and hopefully you'll be able to use it again soon and get those pounds back off.

If it helps any Nicole, I'm there with you feeling this pain. A few months ago I had a complete unfill too, due to being too tight. During the few months after while my surgeon was giving me refills to get me back to some restriction, I got stupid and swallowed a piece of turkey too fast (on Christmas day no less) - and it got stuck. It took it a few hours to get unstuck, but I ended up back in the ER anyway, because I just couldn't stop throwing up. Another unfill, leaving me with only 1.75 cc's in my band. So far I've had another fill bringing me up to 3.75, but it's not enough. I have no pouch, food just goes right to my regular stomach. I'm right back in bandster hell with you. I hate it, I'm really growing tired of the gnawing hunger in my stomach all day long. I actually wake up in the middle of the night, because I'm hungry. I've had days where I've cried in frustration for hours. (I am seeing my dietitian on Monday for some more help.)

ShinyHappyMommy gave some good advice (thank-you so much) I'm just trying to hang in there until I can get my fill level back up. I've been hanging out in the exercise thread, because I know if I don't keep up my exercise, I will start to gain. I'm counting my calories using the FitDay program (I know some people don't like to count calories, but I really need to right now) and I'm trying to keep up my spirits up by doing some good exercise. It's very hard being back in bandster hell. My doctor has never mentioned flouro. He has done x-rays to make sure the band didn't slip, he says it is in the right position. I wonder if flouro would be any different? I don't want to start telling my surgeon what to do, but it is my body, and any intervention would help my frustration right now. :)

Well, I have another fill appointment on February 2nd. I'll see what happens then. This is very frustrating Nicole - and you were really close to goal. I'm so sorry! (((warm hugs))) I have about 24 pounds to lose, not a lot, but I really need to get it off, so I can at least feel "normal" (the 24 pounds will put me at a size 10-12, I can live with that). I'm there with you. Take SHM's advice and just do the best you can. That's all we can do right now.

Thanks for letting me vent too. You are not alone. This has been the worst part of my journey for me.

Let's hang in there together - c'mon over to the exercise thread if you feel like it - it's the best we can do until we get that restriction back.

Hi Nicole

I am sorry to read of your 'glitch' in the journey...to be soooo close and then to be de-railed must be very demoralizing. Lots of hugs!

Shiny gave excellent advice - you can't make the hunger magically go away, so it is best to increase the exercise, try to divert yourself when possible, eat more Protein packed, better foods, drink lots and lots of Water, and just survive it - one day at a time.

How do you stretch the pouch on one side?

Hi Girlies

Thanks for the support and advise.

The Dr said throwing up caused my pouch to pull on one side any worse and they would have called it a slip.

I'm trying to stick to 1200 cals and increase my Protein.< /p>

I know I reverted to eating junk when I was so tight as it would stay in.

I have recommitted to the band and will up the exercise aswell. Curves here I come.

I also have No clothes above a size 8 so there is noway I'm gaining weight.

Thanks to all.

How's it going since your unfill? did you get it put back in and did your pouch go back into place? I'm getting another fill on Thursday which I hope will put me at a decent sweetspot so I can start losing again. Congrats on getting to a size 8! that's awesome.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
