It depends on how soon you lose your required weight. I went at the beginning of April 08 and had my surgery May 5 08. I could have had it sooner had I been losing my weight to begin with. I had to lose 20 lbs before my surgery. If you haven't started losing weight since orientation start now. They really like to see their patients motivated. Good luck! Who's your surgeon?

Thanks for answering. I just have a few pounds to go to get to my 10% which is what they asked of us. I am not sure who I am going to see since their is a Dr. Le and a Dr. Li both are pronounced the same. I saw doctor Li at our orientation and really liked him plus I liked his credentials. I am afraid I will have the other one but at this point as long as they are both safe it doesn't matter I just want to have the surgery. Who did you have for your surgeon. I have been reading some of your posting they are helping me. How long before you went back to work. I do a fair amount of walking but then alot behind a desk also. How was the hospital were the nurses good. How long did you stay in the hospital. Any tips on how to prevent band erosion that is what I am the most afraid of. Anything that you can share with me would be wonderful.

I had Dr. David Le. He is really good. He has good bedside manner. When I had my surgery he had done over 200 band procedures and I had no complications. I was off work for 2 weeks. I do mostly desk work as well so that helped. The staff there is great and they serve great food:drool:. Surgery time was 8:00am and I was out of the hospital by 3:00pm the following day and that was because my ride had to come from San Jose. I am not familiar with erosion issues, but I am sure there are plenty of bandsters here who could answer any questions you may have. Also, ask the doctors. My mother goes with me to most of my appointments because she is very protective of me :). She is the one who asks all the questions. If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks your answers are really helping me. I am glad to hear about Dr. Le. Looks like you are really making good progress according to your tag line. Does it get easier or harder as you go along. I know I will be so motivated at the begining but I worry about keeping it up for ever.

I have slowed down with the loss only because I had some other surgeries after banding and I have been slow to get back to working out. I was going to Curves 5 days a week prior to surgery then after my other surgeries, when the doc finally released me to work out my Curves closed.:wink5: I finally got off my duff and signed up for 24 hour fitness. I am back at it and hoping to pick up the loss again. Keep reading the success stories on the boards, they are motivators in themselves. There is some serious weight loss going on here and we are going to be a part of that!:)

I had my surgeon appt. today 1/30 and they are so booked I won't have my surgery till the first week of april. Seems like such a long time to wait. I exceeded my goal for the surgeon visit so now I just wait for my pre-op and anesthesia vists on 3/20

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
