amberd910 0 Posted January 19, 2009 every dr is different. If you read on LapBand on their direct website, it states that letting the Diet soda go flat is ok. The carbination can cause your stomach to increase with gas. Other drs say small amounts are ok. Ask your dr is the best bet. Not listening to what everyone else on here says about it. Not everyone is a dr on the subject. If I take a sip with carbination, I immediatlely burp. So if I am in dire need of a diet coke I stir it for 3 mins and let it go flat. Thats to warrant off the caffine headaches. But for the most part I have given up the diet coke. Since you cant eat and drink together anymore you dont really realize how little you will consume......
kelli130 0 Posted January 21, 2009 My doc said no to carbonation also. I was a diet coke addict. I gave it up on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at 8:52 pm. It was my last one and I haven't looked back. I used to have one every morning and more throughout the day. Immediately I started sleeping better and I used to quit caffiene by 5 pm, so I didn't really think it effected me. I am not bloated anymore either. This has been one of the many things I have had to give up, but I know I am better for it. If I can give up my diet coke, I can do anything and I will be a weight loss success story!

sistasassy 6 Posted January 22, 2009 I, too, have switched to Starbucks. That and Lipton sugar free Tea - Citrus Flavored. I carry a bottle of the tea in my purse everywhere I go. That an instant Crystal Lite packets. You can toss those in Water if you are out to eat. I HAVE had a tiny sip of a soda here or there but nothing that would even be able to be counted as a full swallow. Just a taste and I know I am happier with the other things that I am allowed to have.

RestlessMonkey 7 Posted January 22, 2009 I quit my Diet Coke... I was drinking 8 20 oz. bottles a day. Quitting the Diet crap cut my sweet cravings... Kgloverii...that was one AWESOME addiction. It staggers the mind. You probably have enough extra money each year to have a good vacation! Way to go!
kgloverii 0 Posted January 22, 2009 Kgloverii...that was one AWESOME addiction. It staggers the mind. You probably have enough extra money each year to have a good vacation! Way to go! It was a TERRIBLE waste of money... I quit cold turkey cause of the surgery and have never looked back... I do find it amazing though, how much my cravings for sweets were cured after I cut that soda out. There are lots of studies on how sugar substitutes mess up your metabolism. I am in COMPLETE agreement on that. I was a diet-fake sugar-low fat-freak. I cut all of the 'fake' stuff and I am so much more satisfied with what I eat. And money for a vacation? Oh yes... We are BIG travelers. The best way to live life. Hey, I've got a hot body now, I've got to show it off at the beach!
jillrenee15 0 Posted January 23, 2009 I too had to have my diet coke. My doctor has said no pop also. I haven't bought or drank a diet coke since my band was placed. I will however have a sip once in awhile of my husbands. The only time I've had an actual glass of pop is when I'm having a 7&7, which is maybe once every 2-3 months. It's poured over ice and stirred to mix in the whiskey, so practically flat by the time I drink it anyway, and I make sure to order diet 7up. I'm sure gonna miss cold beer this summer when we're camping :tt2:
BillOh 13 Posted January 23, 2009 from what my doc told me all carbinated drinks are out for life- they make your pouch swell and can cause bad ulcers- i would love a coke but dont wat to damge anything or be in pain. My wife's nuitrionist gave her to ok for on occasional, slowly drank one. With the full bypass she can't drink 30 minutes before a meal, so if she drinks slow she is ok. You just can't drink "Mean Joe Greene" style anymore. (for the younger ones Google "Mean Joe Green Coke commercial)
Carolina Mom 0 Posted January 23, 2009 My Doctor said that Soda's are EVIL on your pouch. I have not been drink them during my pre op and do not plan on starting back. I am using the Gatorade G2. Several Flavors, low sugar. I don't want to mess up my new pouch due to soft drinks. I have spent way to much money.
