New and have a question

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I have been lurking around your forum for a while and love it. I like so many of you have lost the same 50 lbs for 27 years now, spent soooo much money just to see it wasn't working for me. So I have decided that I would like to get lapband. I am a self pay so it is going to be awhile but my question, to all is ..... Do you really not feel hungry? I know what I should and shouldn't do on a diet but I am always HUNGRY. Please let me know. I am very curious.

Thank you for your time

Hello lwinco1:

Pre-band, I was always hungry. I had huge Portion Control issues. I would eat about 3,000 to 3,500 calories a day. And most of those calories were from junk food.

Yes, I do get hungry post-band, but I consume about 1,200 calories a day with a good fill and I am satisfied with that. I feel full for longer periods of time on way smaller portions. When my fill is working for me, I go for six hours without feeling hungry.

I am not consuming loads of junk food any more either. And I am finally able to exercise, something I was not able to because of the excess weight and body/joint pains.

Good luck!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
