for me... during days 4-7 were the worst for hunger pains. It was mostly due to the fact I was only Protein shakes & Clear liquids. As soon as I could introduce yogurt, ss pudding, cottage cheese, and other soft foods, the hunger pains did subside.

Now I am able to have fish & meat Proteins for one of my meals and substitute a solid food like cheese Protein or a cooked veggie for a snack I have even less hunger pains. I made a small omelet 1/2 cup with egg beaters, some ff cheese and I could only eat 2/3 of it. CHEW VERY WELL... I made that mistake. I was so anxious to get real food in, I did not chew well and it got stuck, not for long. A little milk helped it down in a minute or so, but you learn fast. SMALL BITES & CHEW WELL. Do not swallow chunks, only mush. Sounds grose but enjoy the flavor in your mouth, savor every second!

Good Luck... it's not as bad as you may think. The worst part is the beginning while healing, but just heal! Don't fret... everything else will come naturally!

I look at some of the comments here and think, fuel in and and fuel burned. It has always been that way from the beginning. To loose you have to burn more than your consume end of story. The band is TOOL that we all decided to have placed in our bodies.

This is what has been preached to us for decades - but also contributed to our getting fatter and fatter.

This formula assumes several falsehoods...

1) All calories are equal - not true.

2) All calorie deficits are equal - not true.

3) Creating a calorie deficit will cause your body to use stored fat as fuel and not lean muscle tissue - not true.

Let's take a closer look at this...

On number 1, lets have someone eat 2000 calories of a well balanced diet for two weeks and then 2000 calories of Cadbury chocolate eggs for two weeks. If all calories were created equal they would have the same result. Any takers? The result would certainly not be the same - hence a calorie is a calorie is a calorie is a falsehood.

On number 2, lets have someone be sedentary for a month, creating a 1000 calorie deficit by diet alone - no exercise. Then for the next month create a 1000 calorie deficit primarily by exercise. The person who ate more and exercised more will no doubt have a hotter metabolism and retain more lean muscle tissue. Every pound lost is partial fat, partial Water, partial lean tissue. We keep the ratio aimed more at fat loss when we do some strength training, focus on intense cardio, and eat sufficient Protein.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
