I am so glad to find a place to have all my questions answered. My journey has been disappointing but your stories have uplifted me and I realize I am not alone and my story is not so unusual.. I was banded on 12-11-08 by Dr. Nicholson from Baylor Plano. Looking to talk to any of his patients since I haven't had a support group meeting yet. I have been so hungry...I have only lost 12 pounds. I didn't realize that Dr. Nick doesn't put any fill into the band until 6 weeks post op. Something he forgot to mention. :) Is this common? Oh well, my fill appt is next week, maybe it will help. Would love to hear from anyone with similar experiences.

that is very normal to not have anything in the band for the first 6 weeks lets you tummy heal.

I guess I have been lucky I don't get hungry much since the surgery. I have dropped over 30 Lbs from the pre op diet and surgery. I was banded 12/30/08. Im in the pureed part of the diet and found I had to cut back to 1oz of food to keep from feeling bloated and miserable.

Im not sure if I will ned a fill in a couple of weeks or not if it stays this way that Im not hungry. we are all learning as we go :-)

Hey I had it done in Dallas almost 2 yrs ago. Yes no fill at all till that long. I also didnt know that till after the surgery, but it is just so they can make sure you heal fine. It's a total mind game untill you get that 1st fill. Once your filled then the band can help you play the mind game since it does restrict what you eat. And don't worry about the weight loss thing. It can be a slow process or a fast one. Just depends on you. Im a slow process guy, but it does work. I have lost very slowly, but im loosing. So all will be cool, no worries. Good Luck !!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
