This is day two of my ten day post op diet. It's pretty miserable. I lost 8 pounds since yesterday, but I know it's mostly fluids b/c i spend then entire night in the bathroom. I'm starving....not literally but in my mind. I had chicken broth and Water for Breakfast. I get two cups of fruit a day and that was my lunch. The important thing is to keep hydrated I think. And somehow get over my caffeine headache :( I wish I liked coffee. LOL

My pre-op diet was 2 weeks of no carbs, sugar, alcohol, fruit, cheese, nuts...basically Protein and veggies. Based on the Dr.'s office I lost 5lbs, but I know I gained a couple pounds from consult day to start of the pre-op diet which was 5 weeks. From my results I lost 9 pounds: weight in the morning first day of pre-op diet and weight in the morning day of surgery. I also didn't follow the diet to the 'T'. But I was proud with my results and know that I was making a really big change from the way I used to eat.

I lost 23 lbs in my first week of my liquid only pre-op diet. I am now on day 11 and won't weigh in again until the day of my surgery on 8/24. Diet consisted of the required 3 shakes and 2 Protein Bars per day. Was allowed as much sugar free Jello, crystal light, Water, skim milk, and broth as I wanted. My results have been on the high end so far, but that is because I have so much to lose.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
