Prekdays 0 Posted January 17, 2009 Hi everyone, Im Elly from Florida, married with four sons. I have struggled with my weight most of my life. I have had some luck with traditional weight loss but, I have a hard time mantaining it. My BMI is 40.4 and I have thyroid issues. I have decided in order to improve my life and health I would like to have the lapband surgery. We have United Healthcare for insurance through my husband but, I just found out today that his company doesn't allow for any bariatric proceedures. I didn't realize that certain corporations can allow what can be covered, I thought that was left to the insurance company. Anyway Does anyone know if there is a way to appeal this or if there are other ways to get the surgery financed? Also has anyone used Dr K. Andrew Larson or Jefferson R Vaughan Sr ? Thanks in advance for your support! Elly
RestlessMonkey 7 Posted January 17, 2009 If coverage isn't offered, it won't do any good to appeal (just as if you are in a wreck but don't have auto insurance, an insurance company will not cover you). Many surgeon's offices have information on financing. You might find more info out "looking" around the "Insurance and financing" forum.... There are surgeons in the USA who will do the surgery for around 10K (like a doctor in Denver, Kirschenbaum or Kirshenbaum, not sure) and many people go to Mexico.
