Possible Ice Cream Substitute (low cal per high volumn)

Recommended Posts

Okay y'all (:P),

I've been on the hunt for the low calorie, volumn Snacks. A serving size of 6 chips in a decent calorie range just doesn't do it for me. So I'm going to share what I've found;

First of course is the SF Jello, and I've found I like it with just a little coolwhip mixed in while it's still liquid. They separate into layers when it's jelled, and it's yummy. Whilst in the store looking for SF flavored syrups I came across something called Dream Whip. It's in a box, in the jello/cake aisle. You mix it with 1/2 cup of milk, and just a little bit of vanilla, and it's kind of like coolwhip, but even less calories per serving. If you use 2% milk, it's 240 calories for the whole darn bowl (yes, I did the math, lol). I threw it in the freezer to make it cooler faster than the fridge to use, and forgot about it for a while and when I came back it was all ice cream like. Now, even though you only use 1/2 cup of milk, it whips up to 2 cups of the stuff, so it's like a pint. So you can have a whole pint of this stuff for 240 calories, whereas most of the ice creams I've found are 150 to 200something calories for a serving, which is 1/2 of a cup.

It's not cheap on the carbs, (36 for the batch) but if you only counting calories like me, you might enjoy it. For me it's a 'planned snack' because it's 240 calories if I decide I want the whole thing (division as necessary if not), and it's also planned because you have to give it a few hours to freeze.

next time I am going to try and add just a little bit of my Irish Cream SF flavored Syrup. :)

Marimu, take that Dream Whip and whip in some sugar free chocolate pudding mix ( the powder) as you are whiping the dream whip

Its like chocolate mousse..I also will pour ornage soda over the dream whip or root beer, for a nice treat

One tastes like a dreamsicle and the other like a root beer float. Heavenly!

I'm not banded yet, but when I was on Atkins I used sugar free Jello and 1/3 less fat Cream cheese.

It's kind of like a Jello Cheesecake.

After boiling the Water I would throw the Water in the blender, add the jello mix, let it blend a bit, add some splenda, then add the softened cream cheese. Pour into a dish and refrigerate.

My daughter and I loved it. I can't quarantee the calories though.

A question for i2candoit.....

Why add sugar substitute with the sugar free Jello? Isn't it sweet enough without adding the extra?

Thanks for the great idea! Sounds wonderful......and legal! :)

Actually we didn't think it was sweet enough w/out the splenda.

We just made it to taste I guess. Maybe you won't need to add any.

Good luck trying it though.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
