Bordom Brings back Old Habits

Recommended Posts

It is day 17 after having my proceedure and I am noticing that I am having a hard time with old habits. Last night I knew that the low fat frozen yougurt was in the freezer and I was just getting the urge to eat it . I actually laid their in bed debating should I or shouldn't I . Well the old habits won and I went to the kitchen and finsihed the rest of it. It was only 1/2 of a 1/2 a pint but even though I ate it I was feeling gulity. I was not necessarily hungry . I have been buying the sugarless gumm to chew to try to change my habits which helps some . I guess I wonbdering is anyone else having the mind battles and feeling gulity after eating something you really should not be . Some times I really think I really expected something to majorily change with the proceedure and I was not prepared emotionally for all the changes. :yikes:

I am a sugar addict, as many of us are. I mean "addict" the way a junkie is hooked on heroin. I felt withdrawal when I tried to quit. Being around sweets made me anxious. I used sugar to help my mood. I felt bad after I "used". I hid my addiction. All these things are what addicts do.

I finally admited the problem and asked my doctor if he thought Wellbutrin might help. Some doctors prescribe it for cigarette addiction (and other types) under the name Zyban to curb cravings. It definitely worked for me. I don't feel the anxiety when I walk by the candy dish, for example, and I have been sugar-free with a few exceptions since I started on it. I'm losing weight again after a 3 month plateau too.

Your post sounded exactly what I used to feel. I could almost hear the ice cream calling me from the freezer, and most of the time, I gave in to my craving. I don't mean to sound like a commercial for drugs, and I don't think it would work for everyone, but it might be something to consider.

I am glad to hear that I am not the only one feeling this way. It helps to know I am not crazy ( which I know I am not) but it is hard with my Husband and kids not eating the way I have to and watching them eat food of texture. I have started making sure I pack extra Protein Snacks in my lunch bag just in case and the sugar free wethers hard candy tricks my mind that I am eating something sweet. I know I need to take this one day at a time and keep my focus on the outcome of being able to go places with out considering if i can fit in the chairs, booths and can I walk that far . Thank you for you response . I really like this site it is very helpful to me . :yikes:

You can do it! I remember the first time I sat down in one of our dining room chairs and realized the arms of the chair were not squeezing my hips. I almost cried.

You'll get to where you want to be and everything you have to do now will be completely and totally worth it. I have faith in you!

You bet, I am. I try to keep busy with exercising. But I cannot do that all day. When I watch the tele it gets really bad. Do you see all those food commercials??? That is when I want to start snacking. I just get up and do something else. It is really challenging.

Hi Chris,

My name is Ann and I'm addicted to Hersey’s plain chocolate...I will melt it to dip strawberries just for a daily snack. I will eat it on a train or in plane.

But, I am committed to a healthier life style and will deal with my temptations as they come. Will I still eat strawberries and chocolate? You bet I will... on special occasions.

Ann

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
