Bloody stool?

Recommended Posts

Had one last night, first time. Couldn't tell if it was from h'roids and on the outside, or in the stool itself. I don't feel sick.

Any thought?

Thanks!

Call your regular doctor.

I agree with the others about calling your regular doctor.

It is not a typical lapband problem so none of us could have much to offer . . . . and there are so many different possible reasons for it from the simple to the complex. Your doctor would know best, especially if you have a history of h'roids.

Ditto! It could be h'roids, a fissure, or something MUCH more serious. Rule out serious first.....

Thanks all for your concern! I really do know this is not an internet discussion. I suspected it was a roid... but I have some anxiety issues that I deal with so my mind always goes to worst case scenerio and I'm imagining the inside if my stomach bleeding from the band and all that. No sign of blood today (it was bright red). If it reappears I will most definitely call the doctor... but also didn't know who to start with... my gp or my band doc.

You know I thought I might have had a bloody stool tonight, too but don't know for sure. It was very hard to tell if it was blood or not. It was in my stool and it was a pinkish color. I thought that maybe it was something I ate recently but not sure what other than maybe it was Tomato sauce. I read everyone's advice to call the dr but I think I'm gonna wait and see what tomorrow brings. I just really don't wanna have to give my doc a stool sample for no reason you know. I also think the worst. I get that from my mom. It's not fun but I'm trying to be positive about it now that it was just something I ate. Sorry for the rambling. Bye now!

I think at the very least, it is still good to at least call your doctor. By doctor I mean your general practitioner.

Because there are so many causes that can be serious, it is nothing to play around with or to just assume it is no big deal. Most likely it is nothing important, but just in case it is something more serious you should follow up with your doctor.

Spudgirl -

Don't brush it off as nothing. I had blood in my stool twice a year ago (minor amount). I went to my doctor and ended up having a colonoscopy where a large precancerous polyp was found. My GI doc praised me for having it checked out. He removed the polyp and 3 other small ones but said if I had ignored the symptom we may have had a completely different result. I recently had a repeat study done (1 year later) and there was no recurrence - so I can wait 2 years for my next study.

It may be nothing, but you just don't know. Better to have it checked and be relieved that it is nothing than to take risks with your health. I'm not trying to scare you, just inform.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
