weight loss immediately post surgery

Recommended Posts

I lost maybe 4-5 pounds after surgery, 18 on the liquid diet. While I am happy with that loss, I haven't lost anymore weight, in fact, gained a pound. I had one fill and will have another this Friday. So far, almost no restriction (also, no fill to start with). Is this typical? I feel like I should be losing some but it is just as hard to curb my appetite as it was before.

As hard as it is to believe, you are right on target. I just had my second fill yesterday. I had lost no weight in the past 4 weeks, and the PA was happy with that. I was banded Nov. 6, and made it through the holidays without gaining. For me that is a victory all by itself. (BTW, when I got on the scales this morning I'd lost 2 pounds!)

I feel SOME restriction right now, but it may be from my stomach swelling from the fill. I'll know in a couple of days. From what I've read, it can take 3, 4 or more fills to reach good restriction. Just be patient with yourself, exercise, and drink lots of Water.< /p>

Remember, this is not another diet. This is a complete change in your life that will last the rest of your life.

Your not at your sweet spot yet. Be patient with your Band. It will work for you. It just takes time

I have had three fills so far. One was just this week, so it is to soon for me to say if the 3rd fill will be my sweet spot. I have a 10cc band with 5cc in it. I do have restriction now, but the last two faded away at about two weeks. When, the restriction became less noticeable, I became more hungry and fear set in.

When the fear hit me and realizing I could not get another fill until my scheduled appointment, I took action. I increased my Protein to include a ProSlam45, which 3.1 oz of liquid protein..it's 45 grams. I slam this down in the morning with warm tea or coffee before I start my commute to work. The Slams are filling and get me through the morning.

I also increased my exercise and started using free hand weights. And I track my calories with a free Internet service Sparkpeople.com

I am sure your fill today will help you. However, if hunger does hit you, try occupying yourself with another activity to see if the hunger fades. Keep busy and go for walks. These are things that I try to do.

Good luck!

This is the post I needed to see this morning. Yesterday was the first day I was hit with real hunger since surgery.

Granted I did not eat anywhere near what I ate prebanded but it seemed like such a large quantity compaired to what I've gotten full on since surgery.

I'm so glad I'm getting a fill on Monday!

Hi, I was banded on 12/23 and when I had my 1st post op visit 2 weeks later I had lost 7.8 lbs. I was worried that I would have problems losing weight since I had been on a supervised diet for 6 months and had lost weight. My dr advised not to worry that I would continue to lose as long as followed the nutriotionists plan, she also said that it is common not to lose any weight or even gain until my 1st fill. I will have my first fill on 1/27 and will be glad to stay the same. Maybe after your next fill you will see a bigger weight loss. Have you spoken to your doctor about this? What did he have to say? Good luck on your wonderful new journey.

Helen

next fill is NEXT friday. I spoke to my dr and she said I can get a fill every 3 weeks which is good. I mean to ask if people were able to lose weight at all before the sweet spot. I am doing a good job diet-wise but not losing, exercising some but it is frustrating. I am SO motivated and the results suck because I am so hungry.

I don't know how helpful this will be, but I have noticed that the heavier a person is, the quicker the weight comes off in the beginning. I started off 295, and lost the first 20 very quickly, and now am slowing. I notice some people around 200 don't loose as fast in the beginning. Just a thought...it doesn't apply to everyone. I am an impatient, and want the weight off NOW, so the fact that I am slowing down bothers me. I know it shouldn't, so I am working on that.

I'm in the same boat kplant.

I'm only losing about a half pound a week since surgery on 11/13/08. I've had only one fill and I still have quite an appetite. I get my 2nd fill on Feb 3rd. I hope I get some restriction then, but if not, I will keep plugging away a half pound at a time until it happens.

Good luck,

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
