Should I get the slight unfill?

Recommended Posts

I got my second fill last Friday. I was unable to keep mushies down after 24 hours of liquids, so I went to see my surgeon on Monday. His options were to do liquids all week and then see if I can handle mushies or to get a slight unfill. I opted to try the liquids and see how it goes. I am fine with the liquid part, but am still not able to keep mushies down very well. I had three bites of cottage cheese at lunch yesterday and threw up twice. I am able to have very runny oatmeal for Breakfast, but have only done Soup, instant potatoes, pudding, and tiny tastes of things here and there. At night I can have maybe two bites of egg salad before I get the slimes. I made an appointment to get a slight unfill tomorrow as I feel like I am not making any progress here and it is making me too tired to get good work outs. Any thoughts or suggestions on the unfill? Wondering if I should give it a little more time....

If you have thrown up, you will find that your stomache will be quite sensitive, which means even something that would normally slide will come back up, esp if you've only taken a bite or two.

So I would say try just liquids for 3 days, then move to soft mushies for a day or two, then try to move to something more solid. Don't be tempted into moving to mushies too soon - you may have irritated your stoma and it will need some time to settle.

And even after three days of liquids, when you move to mushies, chew chew chew, and eat very slowly.

If you're doing that on day 4 and you still can't hold anything down, I'd then be thinking of an unfill.

In that case, yes I think I agree.

me too. Its sooo tempting to think you're going to lose tons and tons of weight, but it rarely happens that way.

If you get the unfill, let things settle, you will more than likely be able to handle this level of fill again soon.

2.7 in my band is GREAT for me now, six months ago it was really uncomfortably tight so I had .2 removed. I got REALLY hungry, lol and got two .1 fills after about four or five months, a month apart and 2.7 is now a great level. Totally different.

There is rarely anythng to be gained by remaining too tight.

I agree with Jacqui. Being too tight only leads to problems.

Having an itty bitty unfill makes all the difference in the world. People actually lose better when they eat better,

even though it seems like we would lose better when we can hardly eat at all.

Thank you for all of your suggestions! I think that just a tiny unfill is the way to go. If I have to drink another Protein Shake I might die! haha. I just don't feel I am able to get in balanced meals right now. So, off to the doc later today!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
