how long after a fill to feel restriction??

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill yesterday, 4cc in a 14 cc band. My dr said my band was pretty tight to begin with (my first fill was done under fluro in the radiology dept). He said I should start to feel def more restriction now. Just wondering how or when will I start to feel it? I noticed today that I am still just as hungry inbetween meals. And I had a salad for dinner at 5:30 and it's 7:30 and my stomach is growling and I am def hungry. I am going to have some carrots or a cucumber to hold off the hunger. I remember someone had said it took them about 2 weeks before their fill finally "hit them". I am just wondering what everyone else was feeling?

I had my third fill yesterday. On fill 2 and 3 I felt restriction immediately. That is, I felt it when the doctor was filling me. I am very tight right now and I am on liquids for 2 days then mushies for 2 more days.

Although I have immediate restriction, I do get hunrgy. I just cannot eat much. I drink liquid proetin bullets to stave off my hunger. They really do help.

Salads (as in vegetables alone) make me hungry within a couple of hours, so it may not be anything to do with restriction that you're feeling peckish again so soon after a meal. I find Protein (and sometimes carbs, though I know US banders often don't do carbs) fill me up much better than a salad, and for much longer.

Don't get me wrong, I still eat veg, but not on it's own as a meal. Unless it's something heavy like cauliflower or broccoli.

But to answer your question, I felt restriction immediately after each fill. Then after a couple of weeks, the restriction eased as I lost weight.

Maybe try having lean Protein instead and see if it keeps you fuller for longer?

I felt no restriction after surgery. No restriction after fills 1 and 2. I got my third fill December 18th, and that one has made a BIG difference. I felt it when I started eating soft foods/mushies. I am having to adjust to it, and follow ALL the rules that I wasn't too good about practicing before I got this restriction. Everyone is different - some feel it right away and then it loosens up, some don't feel it for awhile and then it tightens up. I know my band is a moody thing  but I love it. We are learning to live together....one day at a time. Becky

Hi, I also have a 14cc band. I have had 2 fills now im at 5.5 cc in it. Im unhappy to say i dont' really have any restricition. My weight loss has been slow, i eat less yes but still could use more restriction but my doctor here in Germany does not like to do fills. Keep your head up, things will be okay and if you don't restriction and are in a position to get another fill do it. Good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
