What's your regular diet like? do you eat plenty of fruit and vegetables and a good source of fibre like oatmeal on a regular basis? Ideally, you really should eat two different fruits and about five different veg in a day.

Try a few prunes, or some prune juice.

And then make sure you get those foods you need in daily, plenty of Water and exercise, should keep you regular.

4oz of prune juice daily, 3oz of Protein 3x a day and 1 cup of fresh spinich an Broccolli or greenbeans a day. I exercise 6 days a week:huh2: I was never regular in the beggining and it just seems to be getting worse.

I've got to say my poo got all messed up. If you're going every other day or every third day, you're probably average.

If it hurts to poo there's reason to be concerned. If you're feeling full up, maybe you're just used to going more often? That's not going to happen. You have far less to get rid of than you did before.

But as Jachut said, add more high Fiber things to your diet. They act as scrubbers and move the whole mess down the tract well.

Things to consider, pears, prunes, raisins, almonds, oats, barley, bulgar wheat. If you can chew the prune instead of drink it you'll get more Fiber.

Sorry....being full of shit (hahaha) stinks.

You may have to break down and do an enema, if you're blocked up. They have those individual ones in the Walmart brand that work very well. After that, keep taking a stool softner and concentrate on eating more fiber. Fiber One has some good cereals that have tons of fiber in them.

the only problem with the Fiber one cereals is that I have to take beano with them.

Go and see your doctor - I ended up back in hospital because of issues associated with being constipated. They gave me a prescription for Lactulose which is a very sweet liquid. I had tried EVERYTHING to no avail but this works brilliantly. I'm in Australia tho so i'm not sure what your equivalent will be but I'm sure your doctor can prescribe something. Good luck

If you are ready to crap the motherload, this is what you need. A bottle of Magnesium Citrate Oral Solution. You can get it at any drugstore. Once you drink this stuff you will get seriously cleaned out. After you survive the ordeal you will eat better and won't let this happen again. You will never want to encounter a bottle of this stuff ever again in your life. But when you are really backed up and cramping and hurting severely, this stuff will do a serious trick for you. Good luck!

That stuff is way too harsh. That is what they give you before a colonoscopy.

If you really want a laxative, there are some that are more gentle. The one called Corectol they call the "women's gentle laxative" I think an enema is about the easiest thing to get quick relief.

Magnesium Citrate never did much for me (or DH when he was impacted), so I wouldn't be shocked that it didn't help too much.

Eating better like others suggested is a good preventative, but the one time I was 'clogged' up and needed relief.. my mom bought me anal suppositories (Ducalax -Sp??). She said they work great. I was really against anal suppositories, so I bought a bottle of prune juice. Decided I would do prune juice, and if that didn't help, I'd use the suppositories.

Anyway I drank about 2 cups of prune juice--which is apparently a lot, I didn't know when to stop,I was just drinking it (I did not like the taste so I guzzled big sips). That did the job, within an hour I was on the toilet.

Never did end up needing the suppositories, but i keep them just in case.

My young nephew was so backed up that we thought he was going to have a heart attack when he used the bathroom. The solution we found worked like a miracle. We went to a Health food Store and bought a bottle of Peter Gillham's Natural Vitality Sweet Lemon Flavor NATURAL CALM, and followed the directions. The next day he had two bowel movements. By the third day, he was pooping easily within an hour of each meal. Wow, it made a HUGE difference in that child's life!!!

I've been banded since March 2, 2009, and have lost 20 lbs. I use the NATURAL CALM at least twice a week to ensure I don't get constipated.

If you use this per the directions for three days and you don't get any relief, then you may have something medical going on that requires a GI Doctor. Best Wishes! :)

First and foremost, let your doctor know! I would recommend you get a fleet enema which you can find at wal-mart or any pharmacy, because you are most likely blocked up. Then to prevent it from happening again drink plenty of fluids, fiber, exercise and keep a record of how often you move your bowels. Even with the band we should be able to move our bowels regularly (in smaller amounts, of course). So if you're still constipated you may need a mild laxative or stool softener.

Good luck, I know Constipation SUCKS! I had it after my 2 c-sections. :tt2:

Miralax while expensive is a miracle. I use it every other day now as well as a stool softner every day. I still eat tons of fiber and drink over 64 oz of Water, but I still had problems

until I started using the Miralax. My dr. suggested the miralax and says it's fine to use on a regular basis.

coffee always makes me have to drop a duece.

I had to laugh at this one. This is the reason I still drink at least half a cup of coffee every morning (my doctor does allow me to have 1 cup a day).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
