How much longer should I wait? I have questions

Recommended Posts

I had my very first fill a month ago tomorrow. I already feel like I eat way too much for someone with a fill. How long do you all think I should wait until I schedule my next fill? I've only lost about 5lbs. (granted there were the holidays and all) since my first one and it bugs me that I still feel hungry not too long after I eat a meal. I try not to snack but sometimes it's inevitable.;)

I wish I could have the restriction like many of you who are only able to eat 2-3 oz. and feel full. I'm just afraid that I've either stretched out my pouch or this isn't working. Another question I have is how many fills did you all have in the first year and what was the time line of receiving them? I'm asking this because I'm wondering if it is way too soon for me to go and get another band adjustment. For example, is one fill a month too excessive?

I think 4 weeks out is a perfectly reasonable amount of time to go back and get a fill if you are still hungry. I think 4-6 weeks is the average time in between. It is not unusual for you to feel hungry and eat quite a bit if you haven't reached restriction yet.

My first fill was around 7-8 weeks out and the next was 4-5 weeks out but I reached restriction at that point. My signature line shows my fill history.

I don't see any reason why you shouldnt schedule another fill unless your doctor has a policy on making you wait longer in between. Good luck.

I didn't have any restriction with my first fill either. My doc recommends that his patients wait 6 weeks between each fill. I would give your doc a call and see when they will let you in for a fill.

I got my first fill 4 weeks post-surgery and then had two more fills one month apart. For my 4th fill, I waited 6 weeks from the previous one.

I only felt good restriction after the 3rd fill TBH, when I had 6ccs in a 10cc band. I now have 6.5ccs in and if I get any more fill, they will be small ones too now and I feel like I'm close to perfect restriction already.

I think until you feel restriction, a lot of the weight losss will be borne of your own effort, so if you're losing, you're doing great.

Thanks so much HeatherO, Travelinsnorkel, and Lellow!!!

You have renewed my hope and I will call my doctor's office today to see how soon they can see me. I guess I really don't know what true restriction feels like yet so I was a bit apprehensive that I will not ever know what that feels like. I will stay focued and see what happens. Thanks again for all of your insight. :yikes:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
