Does it get easier to drink WATER?

Recommended Posts

I just had my banding last Friday (1/9).

I've been told to drink 6 liquid "meals" each day and Water in between. I haven't been able to get the 6 "meals" down in a day yet much less all of the water. Does this get easier as the swelling goes down?? Help!

Yes, hang in there. My doctor had me drinking 1 oz of Fluid every 15-minutes right after surgery. It is had at the begining, but it does get better.

Congrats on your surgery!

It does get a lot easier. I couldn't get enough Fluid in at all for the first few days. I ended up back in the hospital for dehydration 3 days post op. I'm 9 days out now and I'm drinking pretty normally again.

Ditto what HeatherO said. It definitely gets easier. The first week or two are all about healing and you have a lot of swelling. The liquids will go down a lot easier soon. Good luck!

I brought a water bottle to bed with me while I was recovering and kept sipping it while watching TV. The day I came home from the hospital, I was dying of thirst so I was loving the Water (it forced me to have to keep getting out of bed to go to the bathroom) which was also a good thing.

yes it get easier like the others said. I was very dehydrated the first few days! I am still a wimp and wont drink a normal swallow of Water. I sip but a lot more often. I take like half of a normal drink. I hope in the next week to drink a normal swallow of water.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
