Eating 700-900 cals and gaining. TOM the problem?

Recommended Posts

I am frustrated, and I know I need to wait it out, but I have been loosing pretty consistanly, eating anywhere from 700-900 calories. I am getting in 50-80 grams of Protein a day as well. The last two days I have have been gaining. I have gained two pounds. Now, this might not sound like a lot, but to me, it is. I am on day three of TOM, and am hoping this is the cause. Does anyone else have this problem?

You are probably retaining water- Keep drinking lots of Water to flush your system or you could buy the over the counter water pills that help get rid of the water you retain while having your period. I wouldn't sweat it.

It's Water retention. It will pass and you will get your life back. I am so glad I had a hysterectomy done in 1996.

I've heard that if you take in too few calories, you could gain or stop losing because your body thinks you're starving and holds onto everything. I've seen posts on here where they increase calories to 1000 and they start losing. I don't know if this is the solution for you, I just remember reading that here.

I would say that it could be caused by the TOM but I think you also need to make sure that you are eating enough calories so that your body gets the nutrients it needs. Any changes recently in the way you have been eating?

TOM could be a culprit . . . but that usually only lasts for a little while and then you will start dropping again.

Water retention is certainly possible so make sure that you are getting more than your required daily amount.

Too few calories have affected me this way as well. I had to up my calories to around 1,000 to keep losing after a certain point. Your body can go into starvation mode and slow down your metabolism so that you hold on to every calorie.

Last but not least, most of us do not llose at a steady decline. It is usually starts and stops interspersed with plateaus. Your body needs time to adjust. Almost everyone stops losing 3-4 weeks after banding for a little while so that their body can adjust to surgery and changes in food.

Good luck.

Listen you where just banded less than a month ago. The body can only lose so much so fast. You are probably just adjusting to large weigh loss. Besides and I know you have heard this before it is really bad to lose large amounts of weight so fast. Things can happen when you lose this fast that can accfect your health the rest of your iife and the only way to fix them is to gain weight back.

My dad lost around 30lbs in 6 weeks once and all of sudden started to hear himself breathing. He went to the doctor and the doctor said that he had lost fat around the flap in his ear that controled pressure due to rapid weight loss. The only way to correct would be to gain weight back.

So my point be proud of your weight loss and don't get down on yourself if one week you don't lose.

I had the same problem last week but I weighed myself today and the 2lbs I gained where gone as well as one extra.

Hi everyone, I am new to this site and new to blogging as well. I got my band on 9/29/08 and was weighing myself about every three days. Driving me crazy. I made a New Year's Resolution to wiegh once a week. I showed no weight loss from last Thursday to this Thursday (actually showed a .2 oz weight gain) and am freaking out a little, so I know how you feel right now. But I'm going to hang in there and you hang in there too. I'm hoping we will eventually figure this all out.

I would like to eat more, but I am having trouble. Not with amount so much at the content. I can have egg salad, cottage cheese, up to 6 crackers, cooked pureed veggies, fat free refried Beans, low fat shredded cheese, yogurt, Protein shakes, liver sausage, Beans, and a couple other things I don't remember. I eat the same thing almost every day.

Breakfast- yogurt

Lunch- refried beans, cheese, spinach

Today I had egg salad and crackers instead

Snack- Protein shake

Dinner- Liver sausage, crackers, chesse, cottage cheese, spinach (I don't know why I am craving spinach- must be low in iron)

Sometimes another shake.< /p>

Last night I had almost 1000 cals and 82 grams of protein!!! I tried stepping it up and gained.

Any other suggestions what I can eat at this stage? (not allowed "real" food yet like tuna)

Thanks, I have looked a little already. I suppose I was hoping for some miracle recipe that I hadn't already considered. Looks like I am kinda stuck with what I am already eating for 3 more days...I am such a whiner. I feel bad for anyone on weeks -2 through 3 who can't even eat what I can. I should be greatful. WOW am I PMSing.

I'm usually up a pound or two at that time of the month.

But although the steady weight loss is fantastic for a few months it cannot go on like that forever. Most people bounce around up and down a bit.

You do not see a real trend over a few days. If you're lighter and the end of the month than you were at the beginning, then you're doing great. 2lb is nothign to worry about, I bet its gone in a few days.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
